Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

900g/2lb loaf tin lined with non stick baking paper.
Bake in centre of pre heated oven 190C/375F/Gas Mark 5 for about 45

Remove from the tin and cool on a rack.

As you can see it’s really simple!

Two loaves made in oven after letting BM do the dough and they look great - Hubby has taste tested (he says it's his new job:D ) and the response in his words - 'it's bl**dy lovely' - Job done!
:T ..glad you n hubby like it ... strangely enough -i have been doing that recipe for yonks but hubby still has to test EVERY loaf"quality control" is what he now calls it... it seems it is crucial to test whilst warm and again as soon as its cold -"just to be sure" :rotfl:
For me-i think it is the extra salt that makes the difference..any less and i find bread has no flavour...
Now then folks..i got through yesterday as a NSD and im suposed to be getting to Friday as i don't actually NEED anythingBut now i have a quandry as we need to nip to right at the side of the NAFFI later... temptation :rotfl: ... so i will still go in whilst hubby does what he needs in the other place. But i promise to only come away with super whoopsies
. well it would be silly to miss anything usefull..thats my excuse and im sticking to it
Right off to get a loaf of bread under way and then into the basement to "re-jig" the freezer and see what space i can make :rotfl: wish me luck
have a great day everyone:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Hi Guys,
went to lidls for the first time yesterday, for satsumas only to find that they didnt have any!!!!!! but still managed to come away with £8's worth of stuff! still must say I am getting better, have noticed that even when I overspend it is not as much as it used to be. Am I the only one or does anyone else find that? Anyhow the overspend still had stuff to go in the fridge and some bread making stuff (strong flour etc). although very disappointed to come home and find I had run out of potatoes!! to resist temptation I am gonna get DH to get some when out today.
Tesco-shopper - thats a good idea with the chocolate, I picked up that tip on here and it really works in the muffins.:j
THe Bees - I am pleased the IBS tablets work, my MIL has that complaint and it is difficult to live with
Crockpot - Meal planning is the way forward definitely. I sorted out my freezer for the first time last month. I find that that way even if I dont stick to the meal plan I know that I have bought everything I need for the month and it helps to try to stop me buying stuff I dont need and will ultimately waste. Unless its chocolate!?! :rotfl:
Maz123 - I know that this question has already been answered but as you can guess its different for everyones budget. If I go out for a drink (socially) I have a different budget for that but I have buy alcohol for drinking at home and takeaways come out of my GC budget. See whats right for you. No one will be telling you what to do, peeps on here just give advice. at the end of the day its your choice.
Seashell - sorry your dd is not well. Hope she is feelin better soon
Confused Newbie - I concur that the banana bread and twinks hobnobs are very easy even I can do it (didnt usually bake until I joined this thread) something I usually do is if someone posts a recipe I like the look of I copy and paste it onto a word document to have a go at when I get the chance.JanGC £250/£82 far:weight loss 1lb cc250/£86/cm40/£9.50 :A0 -
Mrs M,
You appear to be the bread expert, how can I make bread that will be very light and (dont mind if its claggy) sort of teacake texture?

Three pages from the end of the thread after reading 7!
Just done an online shop using £6 off voucher so hopefully that will be circa £60. Still going to be a bit tighter than I thought will only have £73 left till June 24th.
Really annoyed with Tescos and myself. Brought two packs of walkers crisps (21 packs) for 3.09 each that I thought were BOGOF. Got to till and they werent apparently even with supervisor checking. Thought I was just daft until today and online they are BOGOF from the 5th. The stupid thing is I chucked the receipt otherwise I would be down there like a shot.
Got some pizza dough on the go for tomorrow and planned to make some more yummy breadsticks. Also want to try the cheesy biscuits.
Oh and havent got around to posting CONGRATULATIONS to Lday77 and Mrs Irwin.
Sorry to those whos partners have been made redundant Im sure an even better job will show up soon.:j0 -
Hi dink
The recipe i posted yesterday....1187 i think always gives me a light bread... what my niece calls cakey bread. I do it by hand but you can whang it in the BM to mix and then in the oven.
Its easy to turn it into a sweet loaf too...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I started buying uht milk so I would not have to pop tp shop for milk and spend £20!
49p in Morrisons and netto but only 44p a box at lidl, not sure at others, this is cheapest skimmed.
But when I was little and shops closed at 5pm on a sat and stayed closed til mon am, my mum always used to have 5 pints in the cupboard, do they still sellit?
I know some people water fresh milk down.
Where is cheapest place for milk in any form?
Might be ceaper to get a cow or goat?0 -
morning all
hoping to have an NSD today. need to pop into town tho to get a duvet set for my gran, but i'm determined not to go into any other shops, then i won't be tempted
bread rolls are cooling in the kitchen now, and i've just put the BM on again to make the dough for some chelsea buns....they'll be going in the freezer tho....well, supposed to be
right, best get on with hanging the washing out and the hoovering. hope you all have a good day xx0 -
Morning all,
Have fired off emails to all my friend's who are growing their own to see how their plots are progressing.
My lettuces are still sad looking and one pot is yellowing so it looks like I may lose them,I've popped them in a cool shady spot for today to recuperate so wish me luck.
Last night I made garlic crostini and took them to my Icelandic friends topped with cream cheese and salami and mushroom pate.Must have cost me all of 30p....I still have about 20 pieces to satisfy the kids wants this weekend.
Have a bumper party weekend ahead.Today we are at a kids party ,then a 40th disco.Tomorrow we have a bouncy castle party and supper at friends.
So foodwise we only need snacks and breakfasts till Monday.RESULT.
My weekend meals will be regigged into the rest of the month.:T
Still expecting a weekend of NSD'S.
PS Fair exchange have vouchers for 1 litre free milk from Sainsbury's and 30p off a Hovis loaf - Take a Look.

Thanks for all the congrats, its still weird looking at my egg money manager and seeing a zero amount for the amounts owed column:D mind probably a good job that the mortgage doesn't show on there else I'd be:eek: LOL
well heres the contents and amounts of my veg box
POTATOES 2kg bag
CARROTS 6 carrots
SAVOY CABBAGE 1 large
CELERIAC 1 huge (no idea what to do with it yet)
PINEAPPLE 1 huge
HONEYDEW MELON 1 huge
COS LETTUCE 1 huge
CUCUMBER 1 huge whole
BANANAS 4
SATSUMAS 4
CONE OF RADISH probably about 20 radishes
GRANNY SMITH 2
ROYAL GALA 2
VINE TOMATOES 6
CRESS
plus the huge bag of mushrooms and a huge bag of grapes that I ordered on top of the veg box.
I have to say although the veg box is £11 and its only a small one it should be just the right amount for me so thats money saving as I shouldn't be throwing any of it away. Unlike last time when I got a medium box and I just couldn't get through it fast enough even with freezing as much as I could.
So will probably have a salad for lunch with a fruit salad for pudding
Did spend a bit more in tescos last night, really fancied a drink so bought myself 2 bottles of bulmers cider as its on offer(£1.39 each and it does 2 large glasses from one bottle). Also bought one of those old el paso dinner kits as the new crunchy chicken one was on offer at half price (£1.56) and have to say it was lovely and I didn't use all of the sachet or the wraps so I can use them for another meal or two:D had to buy chicken as I didn't have any in the freezer (£3.21 for two breasts:eek:) and also treated myself to a toblerone which was also on offer:o
So need to add £9.23 to my total
Still looking like I'm on track this month, although the freezer is starting to look empty so hopefully I will be able to get it empty this month so it can be defrosted. Means I might have to raise my budget to restock it next month though:rolleyes:
Hugs to all who need them, and :beer:to everyone with good newsJune Grocery Challenge 270.80/250July Grocery Challenge 0/3000
