Marky, that is a very good idea - but only if they can prove to me that they are right.

I have not had the time to really delve into this January/March thing yet - I don't get home til late and have also had other things to sort out and try and have something to eat etc etc! I'm in fear of losing my holiday in 4 weeks and not getting the money back due to a relative of one of the others travelling with us falling very ill. (Its very complicated and posted on relevant forum!) So that is something else to sort out too. Plus the RAC have decided to dd my account too now for car insurance I cancelled two months ago......... is it me?? Are my phone calls and letters etc being hijacked?????

I really don't need all of this - but I'll get it sorted - I'm a bit like a dog with a bone :D These forums help. Get it all off ones chest and some good tips too.

I'm taking it all on board folks! And I will be checking out Ebico! And all the others! Except British Gas - can't stand them.

Now - I need to sleep..........

:o
They are now ignoring my emails...

Markymark - I'll phone them Saturday and also do the letter you recommended, I think that they feel they have answered my query (their reply was so er... vague?), told me that they are taking the money, end of story.

I am not happy with that. They have told me nothing, nothing that makes any sense anyway. That is not good customer service.

From the email you had in reply to your email, you are an off-line customer. They have a turnaround time of up to 5 working days.

From the email

1 the computer billed your account in March but to January and a reading form that time.
2 The computer "saw" a credit of x amount and issued this to you. this credit would have been made up of your (depending when you paid) Febuary and March payments.
3 If this had been done by a person the credit would not have been issued and the account would have been biled to date.

They issued you a credit for money that they had thought you had over paid for energy you had used. This is then corrected when the account is looked at by a person and they do not ask for the money in one go but to spred the payments over the next 12 months.

I can see why you are angry and you have receved bad service but you are just being asked to pay for what you have used.

I am not trying to get something for free. I always pay for what I have. I hate debt. But now I am going to have debt as I cannot afford £207 per month - and they have not told me for how long I have to pay this monthly amount for.

And if I am honest, I don't really understand your explanation.... :o

Offline account - that is something that is penalised? Phoning in meter readings not good enough? At least they could have told me.

Your account is not managed as an on-line account (you get your bils in the post). On line account have a callc enter dealing with that type of account only.

Offline accounts they deal with all the other accounts (apart from prepayment) the off line call center will take longer to reply to you.

As far as I know SP do there reassements over the next year but do review the account each quater (well thats with the on-line accounts.)
So assuming that it is the same with your account the 207 is what ever the outstanding is devided by 12 with rest on going usage.

I think that the person who replied to you wanted to say "the stupid computer billed your account to a reading from January, set the refund but did not notice the 2 (and abit ) months had had energy used.

If you can find out what your annual usage and the cost per kWh that way the on going usage part of the DD can be ajusted (and hopfuly lowerd)

Hi clever people!

Not the ideal way to spend a Friday night, but as am broke and have no life... I have had someone more intelligent than me, help me go through all my bills with Scottish Power from day one. I've been with them for four years! Time flies....

We have found the glitch, there was an actual reading in between two customer readings, in January 2008 which was lower, not picked up by me (stupid woman) :o

So, now I am in debt to Scottish Power (hate the debt word). They have now said that my monthly payment is £108, but if I pay £147 per month, in 12 months I will have cleared the debt.

I am now thinking, as the glitch occurred when the gas was hiked up, and it was a glitch on the gas reading, that the best thing for me to do is perhaps to get a loan and pay off the debt and switch to a cheaper provider.

I've been 'uswitching' etc. but find it hard to work out. My average gas usage a year is 700 units and my electric is an average 10,000 units.

With Scottish Power at the moment, gas is kwh@2.620, standing charge 49 days@11.630 . Electric is kwh@9.025, standing charge 49 days@10.760. Now if I'm honest, i understand a third of that :D

I can also see, now that someone has explained it all to me, that there was quite big hike in prices when the glitch occurred, hence I owe such alot.

I'm hoping that someone out there, understands all of this and can give me some advice please! You've been ace so far. On my brief trips to uswitch and the like, Npower seem the cheapest, but the reviews aren't great and I can't see any capped ones coming up.

Hoping for some help - I'm trying. Everyone tells me I'm trying :D

Ring Scottish Power at the weekend on an 0800 number its free! Where are your meters in your property? You need to do your account on line its cheaper and no problems! If your paying by direct debit you must be getting it cheaper?

Neil, I have now realised that I should be doing my meter readings online as any other way doesn't seem to work.

Either way, I can't see that I can afford to stay with them. I can get a capped deal for 1075 per year (not sure if its a good deal yet I admit), so if I am paying 108 per month - its cheaper.

Let me tell you, I have had no problem with SP in fact I rate them very highly, send an email asking them to ring you at a certain time always works for me, what plan are you with? The rates you mentioned are pretty much the best at the moment, ive done the number crunching!
