I cooked a gammon on christmas day and froze what was left on boxing day. I wouldn't risk it lingering in the fridge for long

  • When I was little Mum always cooked a huge Gammon just before Christmas and we carried on eating it well into New Year. She probably still does this.

I think it should be OK - I think you can tell quite easily with most things if they have gone off. I would have a good look at it and taste a tiny bit. If it smells and tastes fine then I would eat it, your idea of pasta sauce sounds good.

We finished off the Christmas Day lamb yesterday in a hotpot and it was lovely.
  • any meal idea`s with leftover gammon ham please:D

Ham and egg pie, quiche, savoury rice, soup, or freeze it.

We had the ever imaginative ham and chips on Boxing Day. An egg would have finished it off nicely but we didn't have any!

    Hi betterlife,

There's an existing thread with lots of ideas that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Rather :o:o to be asking, but there were loads of these in the reduced fridge in Tesco this morning (down from £30 to £7) so I picked one up.

I had intended to just slice it up like sandwich ham and freeze it in 2 slice portions.

But now I'm wondering if it's *that* kind of a ham, or if I should be doing something Nigella-ish with it instead.

It's 2.33kg, and is labelled as "Tesco Smoked Country Ham". It's plastic wrapped and was in the chilled rather than frozen section, if that helps.
