Interesting, no wonder the tube had "gone" seeing as plasmas don't have tubes. ;) Sounds like one of the electrodes had gone.

It could be. I couldn't remember what he called it. It might have been the panel. All I know was that I had a green line down the middle of the screen. He said more might appear before he came back to collect it - but there wasn't.

The only difference I could find from specs was that the 57p model listed a power saving thingamabob and 56p didn't. But not sure whether it simply is standard and wasn't listed on 56p because of simply a mistake of omission. Otherwise they do seem identical but there must be a difference because they're both still in the current/new range and one doesn't superscede another. So unless the power saving thing is genuinely only on one then I'm the same :confused::confused:

Edit: "Power Saving Hotkey Yes (Off / High / Middle / Low) " whatever that means. But it's the only thing it appears not listed in the 56 model.

Hold on I found them on the samsung website.

Not much difference at all really.. the 57 sas a couple of extras that you would probrably never need.
    1) a power saving hotswitch. (whatever THAT is..)
    2) component (y/Pb/Pr) input.. ( you might need this, depends what your sending your picture from really. I connect my PS3 this way)

    links to both pages here.

If you open 2 tabs on your internet you can flip between the 2.
    Or just print them off.

    Gahhh..you beat me superscaper.

Exact method I used. :D

But I'm not 100% convinced they're genuine differences rather than they simply forgot to add them on the specs. Difficult to say really.

i hate shopping when i cant make decisions lol

the ps42a456p is cheapest in Dixons, 609
the ps42a457p is cheapest in john lewis 749 with 5 year guarantee
the th42px80b is cheapest in richer sounds 650
the th42pz80 is cheapest in dixons for 869

i dont know which will be best for my needs :)

i seen the 456p in a shop yesterday and pic was really good and the panasonic px80 didnt look as good but think that was more probably as they said it was sharing signal with other tvs

i like the 5 year guarantee but just means i would have to save a little more, ahhh i dont know :( all i know i like all 4 tvs :D

spoke to richer sounds they will give the 5 year guarantee if i pay full price for tv, 799 and then 80 to deliver! so that knocks that shop off my list now!

so am now left with 609 but with 1 year guarantee on the a456p or to pay 749 at john lewis for the a457p and get 5 years guarantee with a dvd player too

or the px80 for 655 at dixons with 1 year guarantee or 899 with 5 years guarantee at John lewis

or pz80 for 869 with 1 year guarantee at dixons or 1099 for 5 year guarantee with john lewis,

i think the one that seems best to go for at mo is the a457 wit dvd and 5 year guarantee for 750
