spoke to richer sounds they will give the 5 year guarantee if i pay full price for tv, 799 and then 80 to deliver! so that knocks that shop off my list now!

so am now left with 609 but with 1 year guarantee on the a456p or to pay 749 at john lewis for the a457p and get 5 years guarantee with a dvd player too

or the px80 for 655 at dixons with 1 year guarantee or 899 with 5 years guarantee at John lewis

or pz80 for 869 with 1 year guarantee at dixons or 1099 for 5 year guarantee with john lewis,

i think the one that seems best to go for at mo is the a457 wit dvd and 5 year guarantee for 750

Dawn I think I would go for the John Lewis deal.
5 years is a long guarantee, its just a shame they dont sell it without the DVDplayer thrown in.
Its a good one but you may want to use the one you have and save your money for a bluray player.

    Hi Dawn,

Would you be interested in the TH42PX8B not the PX80

Because yesterday i got it for £540 from empire direct using voucher code "em4646" and username "edsave"... Its only that price if you collect in store of course but seems a good buy to me.

    Panasonic TH42PX80B

£750 from Empire Direct but use Woody's codes to get £75 off, add £30 for delivery, then add £30 for EDXTRA card, which gives 5-year warranty on this set.

    Net price £734.98

There's another option for you. I think the codes expire on 9 June.

What you need to do to get the best price and service for a 42PX80 is find your local john lewis and get them to pricematch 'sound and vision' in bolton. You will get the cheapest price and get the John Leiws fantastic 5yr warranty.

With regards to plasma vs LCD, if you want the best picture for Movies, normal tv and some console gaming then go plasma, as LCDs are still way behind in black levels and motion handling. Also 1080p doesn't mean a better picture, all it is, is more pixels on the screen.

I have a Pioneer kuro 720p plasma and it is the 2nd best looking tv on the market, and only second to the 1080p Kuro tvs. It blew sony's top of the range X-series out of the water when I compared in every way. The panasonic PX80 is the best value tv out there at just under £700, and I would steer clear of samsung as they have a number of annoying niggles and their quality control seems poor.

john lewis are looking at a price match for me today now as i said i am goin on holiday next wk so need it done now lol im not goin nowhere now thou, just impatient, a place called total digital which sells the px80 for 666 with 5 year guarantee, so jl is trying to price match today, dont want to buy from total digital though as they seemed dodgy lol i found them a bit strange on the phone, they want to deliver 2moz and collect cash on delivery and they said i have to apply to panasonic to get the 5 year guarantee? is this true as i have to admit when someone wants to be paid cash and can deliver so quick and u dont need to go to the shop makes me wonder

when i have looked at shops i prefered the samsung but there isnt many deals at all on that so it will prob be the panasonic

I thought John Lewis only pricematched from actual shops, not online ones. I may have picked that up wrong though.

Maybe it has a physical shop as well. Their never knowingly undersold policy does only apply to physical shops. Although having gone through their pricematching personally you may have to fight your corner even if you do everything within their own rules. In my case it ended up being a letter to the chairman before they agreed to price match. So just goes to show they'll only really price match if it isn't too different in price and if they basically feel like it.

Hold on I found them on the samsung website.

Not much difference at all really.. the 57 sas a couple of extras that you would probrably never need.
    1) a power saving hotswitch. (whatever THAT is..)
    2) component (y/Pb/Pr) input.. ( you might need this, depends what your sending your picture from really. I connect my PS3 this way)

    links to both pages here.
