I like both panasonic and pioneer.
I find Samsung a bit soft but given the price they tend to be good value for money.
The technology is improving so you might consider looking at replacing in a couple of years if the price comes down (that was my aim). So get one about £600 now and another in a couple of years and you would end up with 2 TVs with the second one of similar quality to a £1,500 one bought now.

Be careful about looking in shops - the lights tend to be bright which will favour LCD. Plasma tend to look a lot better in dim light where I find LCD a bit saturated.
If you're brave enough go to a specialist shop with a watching room where you can see the TV in better light (but don't buy from there as it'll be expensive). If you find a quiet time they should be happy to chat to you.

PS42C96HDX This is (I think) just a lower spec model similar to the next one down. not sure what they left off though..

PS42Q97HDX Cant fault this one, I lurv my 50" version. Technically it can be beaten by more expensive sets, but for the price it gets great reviews everywhere. what hifi give it 5/5 stars.

TH42PX80B.. Everyone seems to like this one what hifi give it 5 out of 5 stars.

42PFP5532D/05 Dont like thisun... only gets avarage reviews no one seems to "love"it

PS42A456P I think this is the latest version of theQ97 range above and is probrably where I would spend MY money if I was buying again cant find any bad reviews,( not many good ones either as its a new model I think)

    :D

    I hope that helps,

There are lots of technical reasons why one TV is better than another, but at some point you need to just pick one you like the look of and then google it looking for "good" reviews.
Good TVs will be easy to find as people rave about them on the net.
Bad tvs will be easy to find too as people complain about them.
Average TVs will be hard to find anything about.

As I said before, there will ALWAYS be a "better" tv than the one you are buying.
You need to look at it from the budget view.(best TV for that price)

    They are all pretty good.
Choosing from those 3 it would have to be price driven for me...

Where are you going to buy from (I know you cant do online)?

I have a TH50PX70 50'' Panasonic. I got it last July. At the beginning of May a green line appeared down the middle of the screen. I called the shop where I bought it and they came up and said that the tube had gone. He said he'd seen it happen in a few 42'' screens but this was the first time he'd seen it in a 50''. They sent for the part and a week later they came and collected it. I got it back the same day. I'm just glad that I got a 5yr guarantee with it, and bought it locally.

Interesting, no wonder the tube had "gone" seeing as plasmas don't have tubes. ;) Sounds like one of the electrodes had gone.

Panasonic TH42PX80B 42" HD Ready Digital Plasma TV great tv ive got the 70 version and it knocks spots off all the lcd's ive seen i paid over 1200 pound for mine.

the letters on the end B mean it as a Base, if it hasnt got B on the end you will have to wall mount it, if its got CAB on the end it means cabinet

the tv will play at 1080 and 720, but its 1080i not 1080p, but all satellites broadcasts at the moment in hd are 720.

    try these codes

    AW5 off a spend of £150 to £198
    AW10 off a spend of £299 to £598
    AW20 off a spend of £599 to £998
    AW30 off a spend of £999 to £1498
AW50 off a spend of £1499 or more

you can also get 2.5% off if you have got an egg card and you can also save some more money by going through quidco.

hope this helps.but for the rice you can get this tv its a bargain
