  • I must say I agree with people on here about entering competitions, especially for festivals etc, that you cannot use, it does my head in!

There was someone on here the other week who had won Tiesto tickets, I really really really wanted them, and the person who won was giving them away because they couldn't go. The person who took the tickets was a complete utter newbie and their only post was that one asking for them, and it looks like they didn't even go, they certainly haven't reported back (or at least the last time I looked). Makes me angry.

I know people say they enter so if they win they can offer them back to people on here and 'give something back', but surely, the best way to give something back is to not enter in the first place and reduce those who actually do want to win chances in the draw.

    Rant over!

    Thanks Nicky

If I read all the T&C's I'd spend all my time reading and no time comping! :D

Do you really think they go to the trouble of tracking IP addresses etc to see whether two entries are from the same person?

Yes they do. For example Jane Willis of Competition Grapevine on a competition she ran
"There were around 500 entries, but despite the rules saying "one entry per person", quite a lot of people entered two, three or even TEN times. As a comper myself, I gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and assumed they had forgotten that they had already entered, so kept only the first entry from each person and then deleted their other entries. But it pays to keep a note of what you have entered, because a lot of websites would delete ALL the entries from anyone entering more than once."

Thanks Lilias - but that's "one entry per person" not "one entry per IP address" - is that not more likely to be people submitting multiple applications with the same name & address.

I think you will find that most of us only enter once per comp. If you want to risk it and enter again using someone elses name - especially without first checking the t+c for that particular comp - then that's up to you. Personally, I wouldn't - I find there are plenty of comps to keep up with, without trying to manage multiple entries, or check whether or not it's within the rules to try and enter again.

I completely agree ;) what is the point of entering for something you don't want  or can't use
Our Granddaughter, Caitlin Freya is now 7 years old :), growing up to be a lovely young lady and our Grandson, Findlay Ewan is 3 years old and still a lovable bundle of mischief :) one of each, how perfect

Couple of questions I hope someone can answer!

Is it alright to enter competitions twice? ie. for somebody else aswell - different name, address and email address? Although I do use the same mobile phone number if specifically needed.
I don't bother entering twice to those competitions that say "already entered" etc as I can't be bothered deleting cookies, nor those that require registration.
But is it ok to enter again those that just want name / address, or email entries?

Secondly, those competitions that require you to sign up for a newsletter etc - do you have to sign up for each competition or are you entered automatically?
I'm thinking of musicnews.com in particular.

    Thanks

why would you want to enter more than once anyway
i do not enter for the whole family but i do enter on behalf of
for example any women mothering comps i'd enter for the missus or any childrens comps i'd enter for my kids but apart from the itv comps where you have an allowance i would not enter for every tom !!!!!! and harry for the same comp
