My fridge is pretty minimal and clean. Last week I noticed a nasty smell and found some spilt milk in the door. So I cleared the whole thing out, defrosted the ice box and cleaned all of it with warm water and washing up liquid.
I put it back together, but sadly two days later noticed the manky smell had made a return.

I've had a good look round, sniffed all the contents (no smells) and tried to work out where the smell is coming from. I can only think that the cleaning diluted the cause rather than cleaning it out properly.

    bicarbonate of soda?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Try again using a solution made up with Bicarbonate of Soda, then afterwards leave a little dish with Bicarb in it in the Fridge, does wonders for neutralising odours.

OK, I did wonder about bicarbonate. Is it possible that my cleaning just sort of diluted the offending milk sludge, so that's why it still smells?

Try cleaning your fridge with neat starclens and put a small piece of cloth inside the fridge with a few drops of essential oils.
    Good, clean fun.... :D

OK, but the thing that's intriguing me the most is why my thorough cleaning didn't solve things the first time.

Milk, especially when its curdled, is a very difficult smell to shift. A strong degreaser with some scent is your best bet.

I've cleaned it out some more and it's 50-50 on the success at the moment. I couldn't find any bicarbonate at Tescos. Do they sell it?
