  • I bought some gorgeous brie and stilton from the market yesterday (not very MS but it is christmas :j ) It is wrapped in wax paper and I have wrapped it in a plastic bag but it reeks! DH hates cheese anyway so everytime he opens the fridge he moans about the smell :rotfl:

Is there anything I can do to tone down the smell?

Have you tried putting it in a plastic container (with tight lid)?

At this time of year we put our smelly cheeses in airtight containers. We use Lock&Lock, which are available from QVC and Lakeland - there are dozens of different sizes (go to lakeland.co.uk and search for lock lock)

Rest of the year we use this: http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/product.aspx/!7136_5073 or the smaller version http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/product.aspx/!9185

We have so much cheese at CHristmas that it doesn't all fit in the preserver, which is why the extra smellies get moved to their own containers.
  • Thank you! Can't believe I didn't think of that :o
My head is so full of other Christmas things and my baby that common sense is obviously fading fast. Thank goodness for MSE!

i always store anything with a strong smell in a plastic tub. as i don't like other food to absorb the smell.

my firdge is full of all sorts of cheese for the cheese board xmas eve, but i don't have any strong smelling ones this year. but i just wanna eat it all now.

  • I think it was Delia that recommended cheese be kept in the boot of the car (correct temperature and saves on fridge space) on the run up to Christmas, provided we don't have a heatwave of course! I keep mine in the outhouse which is about the same temperature as the cheesemongers.
