ceridwen -as far as I know, funeral directors are prepared to wait for the deceased estate to be settled and be paid from that and if that means waiting for a house sale then I expect they would hang on.
I know there are still several outstanding bills from my Mums estate -some to the understakers, some to other people - all are prepared to wait until things are sorted.
Someone on the Silver Surfers board might have a better answer to this one.
Or you could contact a funeral director and ask what the proceedure is -several people must come under this category I'm sure.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Will agree with a lot of the posts on here. Thankfully havent had any experience with arranging a funeral but what I will say is that my hubby knows exactly what I want when I go. I am only 25 but the way I look at it is its the only certainty in life and one day it will happen to us all!

One thing I will say however that did slightly freak me out was............a few months ago we were at my burrying my husbands uncle, they are from a little small country village so burial was in the church graveyard. We were all standing round the grave and FIL proceeded to tell us that where we were standing was the plots he had purchased for us to be buried!! Got to say although the thought of dying does not scare me at all it did slightly un-nerve me to know where I was standing! Me being me of course proceeded to giggle and had to stiffle it into my hubbys arm and pretend to cry! :o

So while I will say please let your loved ones know what you want to happen when the time comes sometimes things might be just a little too much!! :rotfl:
Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!
  • How thought provoking this thread is. My greandfarther died a few years ago and my dad aranged the furenal. GF was not a nice bloke and dad would be paying for it all so asked for the cheapest. Two thousand for a cramation. It was only my dad and mum that went. Sad really.

MY husbands mother died when he was just 11 and although he did not have the pennys to worry about he felt that the furenal was for the living and not the dead. Because what do they know.

Our son is 15 and when Micheal Jackson died it made us all talk about what type of furenal we want. I dont think that its somthing that many of us do talk about or save for. Im not old but at some point I will write what I want done down and put it with the birth certs and hope that one day that will take the pressure off of my loved ones. xxx

For those who think they or their rellies will have nothing to bury them with or have money tied up, is it worth considering one of those no medical low cost insurance policies which will pay out on death only to cover £2-3,000. I think they work out atbout £5 a month depending on age starting??
    Such as here.
Older people may pay this towards their funeral, but not consider saving for it.

I was unfortunate to loose both my parents when I was 25 and 26. Not sure whether it was due to my age, but the solicitors took care of everything for me. Every bill, piece of paperwork that I had we passed over to them, once the probate/sale of the house went through, they paid everyone, I can't remember anyone being pushy asking for their money for outstanding bills.

    Hello All

Not sure if we have a OS funeral thread - wasnt sure if I should be asking on OS but please bear with me.

Mum died today after a long battle with advanced cancer. That leaves me as the oldest female in our family, and therefore responsible for helping my father to sort out everything.

Mum was really OS - right down to the homebaking, shabby chic and cooking from scratch. Therefore a tribute to her - would be an OS funeral.

We also need help to keep costs down, from a financial perspective.

Can you direct me to the best place to ask if this is not the correct forum

    All help appreciated
