I dont think that comment was bazare by any means. We are in the fortunate position that water is in plentiful supply in this part of the world. Despite what people say I do not belive there is a shortage.
I think there is a mass hysteria at the moment that everything is running out - food, oil, water, the list goes on. In fact, the only reason there are water shortages in the country is through poor management of the collection and distribution of water eg leaking pipes (I doubt such leaks would be tolerated in the gas trasit system). If water is such a rare resource then why is it so cheap?0 -
Water is not running out, the issue is with harvesting it and cleaning it. Saving water in general does help especially in the south of the country and during a drier than average year. I agree it is partly due to poor management but the leaks are largely due to the age of the system, which the Victorians put in (doesn't apply to everywhere obviously) and have done pretty well considering the mistakes they made (e.g. storm drains joining the main sewer system). In London there are always leak fixing works going on so they are trying...Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

I believe that oxygen in this world(and possibly the Universe) is pretty plentiful as well - about 21% of the atmosphere is made up of the stuff I understand.
Yet the NHS pay an absolute fortune for bottled oxygen!!!
The problems of the water distribution netwok system in this country is indeed down to poor management of the infrastructure, as you say. However this neglect started a hundred years ago, and it wasn't until water was privatised that huge sums of our money started be spent to bring it up to date.
The Water Bill that privatised the water supply industry was a masterstroke by Maggie. It gained the Treasury huge sums of capital, and authorised the water companies to charge us customers large sums of money(with above inflation rises year on year) to put right the neglect of themselves and previous Goverments.0 -
The reason I try to save water is because our water bills in this part of the country are the highest in the UK and we are on a water meter. I have a new house and loos are as water effiecient as possible but they still cost money to flush. I am green but I am mean!0

Something wrong tho when most of the heavily purified water is used for the loo.
Time at least that Building Regulations called for grey water systems on new builds.0
