Took me some time to work this out, but that may be because I've had a glass or two of Friday night medicine.
But, as it doesn't seem that I'm being told off, I shall continue to insist my loo is flushed after any appropriate deposit. Men's wee-wee, especially, is less than fragrant.
Well I had a couple of glasses before I wrote it, but it was meant to convey that you are free to flush your toilet as you see fit. Nobody can say you are wrong just because you flush more than they do. And nobody has the right to take the moral high ground just because they flush less than you.0 -

Not used to this on MSE!
You are supposed to castigate me; tell me I'm a worm; rip me to shreds!

Soda crystals are good for so many things, plus they're quite environmentally sound and cheap. Leaving them overnight in the toilet removes tough stains, but they also work well for general toilet cleaning. About a tablespoon in the water and scrub well with the brush, it leaves the toilet spotlessly clean and fresh. I haven't used liquid toilet cleaner for a long time, which has reduced the chemicals we pour down the drain, the plastic bottles we throw away, and has saved a lot of money.
I also use soda crystals to clean the fridge as they don't have any perfume in them, and to clean the bathroom fixtures and tiles. Also the cooker top and kitchen counters. A strong solution in the kettle boiled and left overnight softens the limescale so it easily wipes away. You can replace a lot of expensive and environmentally damaging cleaning products with soda crystals.0 -

... and a tablespoon or two in the bath soften the water too, as well as for washing delicates by hand...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I cant believe the way this thread is going. People dont want to flush the toilet on environmental grounds yet they are happy to put a cocktail of other chemicals down there to prevent staining. I think, overall, a quick flush with water after going to the loo has to be the most practical and environmentally friendly option.0

You bunch of dunks you! That reminds me, where’s the whiskey……?
I bought some Harpic Power Plus earlier today and I’m actually thinking of taking it back after reading all your tips about Soda Crystals. Soda Crystals are very cheap and, from what I’ve found from using them in my washing machine, very effective too. I’ll give this a go tonight and I think I’ll put some in the loo before I go to bed.
Must get myself a loo brush next time I go to Ikea.
I’m kind of in agreeance with thescouselander, especially when it comes to using Harpic. I have to say I was sort of taken aback when it was suggested to use Harpic especially when this is supposed to be a so called 'green forum'. Although admittedly I was thinking I’d use whatever it took to get rid of any stubborn stains that are caused from not flushing the loo.
It has to be said too that not flushing the loo definitely doesn’t half leave my bathroom rather smelly; it even smells worse than a public toilet sometimes and it gets particularly smelly after a period of time when the urine becomes stale. However, when it does pong a bit I make sure to flush it and mostly when it’s used first thing in the morning.
Oh well, wish me luck with the Soda Crystals!0 -

You are right up to a point, but the board is for green and ethical Money Saving. Not flushing is supposed to save you money. There's no harm in trying it and discussing the best/cheapest ways to keep the toilet clean and smelling fresh.0
