Were the supermarkets not in the news for price-fixing over the price of milk? Not really sure what it was all about but they got in trouble!

Like Calley said the price of fuel/grain has risen dramatically and obviously the farmers producing the milk aren't immune to these (and suppose this will also apply to the likes of firstmilk, arla, dairycrest, robert wiseman, etc, etc).

THe supermarkets increased the price of milk by 1p a litre a few years ago to give dairy farmers some extra money towards there increase in costs at that time.

The OFT decided it breached competition rules and brought anti-competition charges against the vast majority of supermarkets.

Now the farmers have increased costs of grain, fuel etc like Cally said the full increase is being passed on to the consumer. Robert Wiseman announced this week that due to the substantial increases in food, fuel etc they have endured this year the profits for the year will be severly reduced and they may even post a loss next year.

My local Lidals often have the 2 litres with 30% off, yes it is near the sell by date but always has about 2 to 3 days left, i think its good espically when you have kids that drink it like mine do, 2 litres a day, there is one downside though, that its full fat milk, still have to fatten up my skinny kids:j

the price of 2 pints of milk in asda went up from 76p to 80p yesterday, so it will apply all over...

    hi wookie
you can water down the full fat milk or freeze it every-one on the grocery challenge thread does it ,reduces the fat content and makes it cheaper

That's a good price for 2 litres and it would be nice to think that the producers are getting a better margin than the supermarkets pay. Sadly I'm stuck with the big stores and whatever inflated price they decide to charge.
