Sainsburys are doing a new 1% fat milk. There are loads coupons in my local for a free pint / 42p off 2 pint pack. I have been buying 2 of these, getting 4 pints for 76p. It is quite good as well. Vouchers valid till end of May.
My husband is a buyer. We have stocked up on pasta & rice & as many tins as we can. Luckily I have a big kitchen & loads of room. Things are only going to get worse as manufactureres have absorbed a lot of the price increases so they have not even reached the supermarket yet.0 -

Should I start on the price of rice- Tescos just increased the price for 4kg of their own brand basmati from £4.87 to £6.29.
A month ago it was £3.60!Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -
Trying to budget for groceries, toiletries etc on £40 pw for a family of four (two growing lads) was tough enough in Feb but it's getting very tough now!
Our local farm shop also beats the supermarket prices on their 4-pinter and does 3 for 2 if you buy meat from their freezer. I've watered down whole milk in the past and it was fine- but DH 'hates' whole milk so I had to decant it into a green bottle anyhow.
I went to Mr T's emporium at 10.30pm on Thursday and found a few bread-items reduced from over £1 to around 10p, plus some special offer half-price steak reduced by half again in the bargain fridge. I'm planning to make a weekly 11pm trip now!0 -
The recent price hike in the supermarkets is scandalous, I don't believe it all associate with the credit crunch, I think it's the supermarkets trying to make a quick buck
I noticed the price in Mr S today of milk, £2.12 for 6 pints from £1.96, grrrr.
I wonder if the days of the shopping in the supermarket will soon be over, where people start to shop at individual shops again.
It's getting to the stage where shopping for essential items only will be the norm.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

living in east london...went to queens market today...virtually everything you pay for in supermarket on veg and fruit and eggs is so cheaper there...for example
60 free range eggs -£5.00
peppers 3 pack most supermarkets £1.75 for 3
6 for £1.50
And so on
and all better quality than supermarkets
...supermarkets are literally taking the p** at the mo...especially somerfields:eek:“When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.” Socrates

Felix chicken in jelly cat food has just gone up from 52p to 64p a tin
It's the only thing that doesn't make her sick (she's also only boarding whilst my Nanna is in hospital - 8 months now - and I promised I would only feed her that due to her 'delicate disposition').
As for rice and pasta, I bought loads of the 3kg bags of pasta back when they were about £1 or so and they have a really long date on so loads of time left. I may never have to buy pasta again lol.
I agree with Shinkyshonky about the markets though. Sleaford market has a great fruit and veg stall, I pay about 1/2 the price for all my veg there, but I can't always get there as OH often works Saturday mornings and I'm not dragging the kids there on the train as the fare would pretty much negate any savings (well it wouldn't, but the stress would lol)."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

And the one of the sadder things is seeing people pay money for food that is supposedly quality when you can make the same for a third with more fresher ingredients, take pizza , meals etc, oooh it`s convienent ,let`s get it, part of the pleasure about food is making it, then eating it:o“When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.” Socrates

Are you my double?:rotfl:
I love cooking and the kids fight over who's helping who do what lol. I've just written out the menu plan for the week after next (*feels very organised*) and the only thing close to convenience food is pasta in tomato sauce which takes 12 minutes to make fresh from 5 ingredients including the pasta (plus enough for cold pasta salad for lunch the following day for about £1.20)! We made tomorrows dinner earlier and is sat in the fridge ready to be cooked for 20 mins. It will do all 5 of us (3 with hollow legs) tomorrow and enough left to freeze 4 or 5 individual meals for OH when he's on lates (or me when we make pizza or pasta as I can't stand either of them!)."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper
