We buy most of our milk in our local village shop, its about the same price as it is in the supermarkets and is from a local farm. Plus I dont have to drive out to a supermarket to get it which actually then makes it cheaper than the supermarkets considering the price of petrol these days.
I'd recommend people trying local shops out!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I cant believe the price of Flora spread - its now £1.68! It was always around the pound mark then was around £1.20 and now nearly £1.70 - the prices of everything are ridiculous:beer: If I say something you like....Please hit the thanks button :beer:0

hi all ,
a lot of these price rises are down to oil , tractors, lorrys require fuel oil same as your cars , nitrogen fertilizer has gone from £125 per tonne to over £300 other fertilizer has gone from £100 to over £500 per tonne and dairy / arable farmers need to use a lot to produce milk and corn .
more oil still is required to move from farm to store
We as consumers are all not only being hit by oil rises , but the £ has fallen in value by 20% against the euro making imports more expensive , Gordon Brown was warned about this reliance on imports many years ago , letting tesco and the like screw the farmers into the ground by importing cheap food from abroad when it could be got for nearly the same price here .
so now we have a situation where many farms have gone so less is produced creating more of a shortage pushing the price still higher and will only get worse .(there are still 48 dairy farmers a month giving up down from nearly 100 a year ago )
I,m afraid to say this is only the beginning, i suspect all food bills will be double or more within 2 - 3 years as contracts end , and cheap easy imports dry up .
New Zealand a long time importer to europe of dairy produce and lamb ,(and one we relied on for imports out of season ) has just signed a big full access deal with china and much will be going there instead .
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it is reality ,the era of cheap food is over ,so we will just have to get used to it ,
all the best andy0 -

Huggies Dry Nites. Not long ago they were £4.95 for a pack of 9. Now I can't get them cheaper than £5.45. Not food I know - but still a 10% hike in one fell swoop. I can't shop around for cheaper brands as we need the bigger size and they're the only company that makes them for over age 8.0

Time to start growing methinks....seriously it is going to get worse, as andybk says Gordon brown was warned about these scenario`s years ago...add in a society bred on convenience, and munters who do not know how/or will not cook....recipe for disaster“When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.” Socrates
