Hello - bit long sorry!
We are moving house tomorrow (Friday). OH rang his work on Monday to let them know he would need Fri and Sat off. Bit short notice but we only had the date confirmed on Monday.
He couldn't get through to his manager so he left a message with reception and stressed that he must get the message. We then went out and didn't think to follow it up...not even sure what time his manager finnishes...anyway...goes into work on Tues and tells his supervisor that he would be off Fri & Sat.
His manager is not in on Tues and Wednesday - they are his days off.
Goes into work today, manager comes over at lunch time, supervisor has told him about him wanting 2 days off. Manager says first he has heard of it and he has no chance of having the time off. HR said he should have spoken to his manager himself on Monday, explained that he tried but couldn't get through, HR shrug shoulders.
Now, I have 2 babies and a 6 year old. Plan was for Oh to take 6 yrs to school and 1 baby. I take other baby to mother in laws, drop her off and collect my f-i- law to help with the move.
Can he take the Friday off as parental leave and therefore give no notice?

Could he not go back to the manager and explain the situation, even ask for a couple of hours off? And maybe your mil could take both babies (easier said than done)
It depends on what his work is like - if he just takes the day off there may be hell to pay come monday.
Else you could hire a man with van type to help?0 -
Hi
I have a man booked but i'll struggle to take daughter to school drive 25 miles to mil and get back and finnish off my packing/stuff.
nightmare!You're my wife now Dave.......0 -
Perhaps the children going to school is not that important for one day?0
-
Can you drop one off at MIL the night before?0
-
I agree with the Captain, let the little one have a day off school - it's times like these when you need to call on your friends and family, get in touch with everyone and explain your predicament, I'm sure you'll get some volunteers - once the move is over and you're settled in invite all those who helped to a 'thank you meal'0
-
It's an idea... will see what has been said when he gets in or rings me... he is 40 mins late from work so hopefully it is getting sorted. If not think I'll have to beg mil to take on the tribe (6, 18mnths and 6 mnths!)
Can't got he night before as I have to pick up fil - he can't drive and we have no room to put him up. (tiny house - hence the move ha ha).
As for family - none close - my dad has a funeral to go to and he lives 1hr away. Friends...all work...not got many "close" friends...hopefully when we move we'll make some more.
As for cooking....hee hee me? Maybe a take away! You're my wife now Dave.......0 -
As far as I understand it parental leave means the company cannot disipline your OH as he has a right to take care of his family, but I'm not sure they have to pay him.
Its a shame you are trying to do the right thing and arrange this, because if your OH had rung in sick no one would be the wiser. The world gone mad again!0 -
oh I forgot to say good luck - moving house is stressful enough as it is !0

Good luck!

thanks everyone - you have been very helpful.
Turns out there is a big boss coming into oh work tomorrow and it is too late (?) to arrange cover. They only have 300 employees! So in other words boss is coming and they need him to do his job - which is keep the warehouse tidy - otherwise they'll get a bollocking!
They will let him go in early or late but he still has to go in. Soonest he can leave is 12. So I guess we have no choice but for him to go in at 6-12. And me and fil plus man and van will have to get on with it until he gets home.
Never work for a supermarket! Unless you arrange your own holidays. You're my wife now Dave.......0
