ok another tip, dont fall into the avoid fat myth to loose weight, we spent 2 million odd years on a high fat diet, even cholesterol has been proven not to cause clogged arteries now. Avoid trans fats thou there unnatural and the body can not process them properly. 35-40% of my calorie intake is oils and fats (about 70% of that poly/mono)
calcium does bind with fat and get passed through the system, in fact my with who had been a yoyo dieter for 25 years (low fat) had been constipated the whole time, since switching over to a sensible amount of fat in her diet her constipation has gone.
as for breakfast if you have to eat grains then oats are about the best, for a change i often have crushed pecans on it nom nom.
low fat greek yoghurt is great as its high in protein and calcium and live yoghurt (which most greek ones are) are very good for gut health. I eat this most days, the full fat ones are great as well if you can work them into your daily cal allowance.
caffeine does have a slight metabolic overhead but it has one downside in that it creates carb cravings, see here
Quit caffeine. What? I know what I said. I hated the thought of it too. But caffeine can be one of the worst culprits in activating cortisol spikes. I started losing weight again as soon as I quit drinking diet, caffeinated soda (okay, okay, so I was drinking three and a half gallons a week, but how many of you keep track of your intake?

Hmm, not sure if I have demons or not regarding food.
A small bit of progress yesterday and today! I binned all the remaining biscuits in the house on Tuesday evening and I haven't had any chocolate or biscuits since. Psychological effect? I don't know, but I really do feel better for it. Lighter, even. And less full and bloated. So that's a baby step in the right direction.
Thanks for the info. Re calcium, how much do you need to bind with the normal amount of fat in a daily diet (e.g. 70g IIRC) to have an impact?
I had nutty muesli this morning, picked the raisins out lol. It was fine, and it did keep me quite full.
Caffeine induces carb cravings, hmm, better not start drinking coffee then! I love herbal teas and am trying to drink it every time I feel a snack urge. It certainly fills my stomach! So fingers crossed.
Oh yes, and I started Curves yesterday evening and am going to go at least 4x per week till my holiday (then keep up the good work while there and when I come back). I disagree that documenting what you're eating is a bad thing! When I started losing weight I documented everything, and did so for a few months. It's all part of the education! For many it isn't a psychological issue, it's a simple issue of underestimating the number of calories that are being eaten.
Everyone knows that men should eat 2500 and women 2000, however very few actually work out how many calories they eat and the calorific value of most foods.
Over eating is not a problem, as long as you eat the right foods! By educating people on what foods are "good" and what are "bad" (and not just fruit and veg!) and putting things in the bigger picture such as yes you can have pizza on a weekend, but you need to balance that with good healthy meals the rest of the week.
I know that my problem wasn't the amount I ate, it was what I ate. Now I have the same portion sizes, just better food.
I agree - documenting your eating is a good thing! I've recently started doing weight watchers and just writing down what I'm eating is showing me areas where I need to cut back on portion sizes, or change foods e.g. reducing carbs and increasing protein. A lot of people have no idea just how much they're eating, and so writing it all down can really help. Here are my usual options:
2 boiled eggs - my usual atm. Tasty, fills me most of the morning, easy to eat at work. Downside: possibly too many eggs = high cholesterol?
I eat poached eggs for breakfast most daysDFW by end of June 2016...! LBM June 2011

No debts here. Demons, hmm, not sure, what do you mean exactly?
I am trying to eat more protein, I am also drinking skimmed milk every day for protein, to make me feel fuller etc. Also, a recent health prog said that calcium can help stop fat being absorbed by the body. Not sure whether to believe it or not but hey!
Breakfast is always difficult for me to vary. I don't eat toast any more (only occasionally at weekends) and I hate cereals, I'm not a big fan of muesli unless it's one of the nutty ones (i.e. loaded with fat). I struggle to find a decent breakfast that I can eat at work and that will fill me till lunchtime!
Here are my usual options:
2 boiled eggs - my usual atm. Tasty, fills me most of the morning, easy to eat at work. Downside: possibly too many eggs = high cholesterol?
Porridge - hard to get the taste right as I don't like it plain and am reluctant to use sugar. Might try cinnamon? Also, it doesn't always fill me till lunch.
Fruit - tasty but defo not filling enough!
Low fat Greek yogurt - again, not filling enough.
That's about it! I really need inspiration for healthy breakfast ideas. Also healthy snacks. Anyone able to help? I would be so grateful.
I always try to drink herbal tea with breakfast to fill me up a bit more, and have about 3 cups through the day.
I hear that caffeine speeds up your metabolism, do you need lots of it though?
I have porridge with skimmed milk, cinnamon and banana or stewed apple. I use 30g of oats, teaspoon cinnamon. More satisfying when you add the fruit to it, and naturally sweetened.0 -

I don't think eggs increase cholesterol, the advice has changed in recent years. See the BHF site (nearish to the bottom of the page): http://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/conditions/high-cholesterol.aspx

Yay!!!! It's back to eggs for me then, as my muesli this morning has not filled me at all!I have porridge with skimmed milk, cinnamon and banana or stewed apple. I use 30g of oats, teaspoon cinnamon. More satisfying when you add the fruit to it, and naturally sweetened.
OMG, that sounds absolutely lush!Must try it tomorrow. Thanks :T

@ Ted
Very good advice! You certainly know your stuff and I only wish there was a way of cutting through the daily lies that people are being fed (no pun intended) regarding what is good for them. Breakfast cereals are the first on my hate list!!!0 -
ted is an amazing poster, however sadly he has been banned from the site, i miss his helpful posts and i am sure i am not alone0
