as for the slim shots, hmm yummy Polyethylene glycol, a laxative / sex lubricant
Polyethylene glycol has a low toxicity and is used in a variety of products.[6] It is the basis of a number of laxatives (e.g., macrogol-containing products such as Movicol and polyethylene glycol 3350, or SoftLax, MiraLAX or GlycoLax). It is the basis of many skin creams, as cetomacrogol, and sexual lubricants, frequently combined with glycerin. Whole bowel irrigation (polyethylene glycol with added electrolytes) is used for bowel preparation before surgery or colonoscopy and drug overdoses. It is sold under the brand names GoLYTELY, NuLytely, GlycoLax, Fortrans, TriLyte, Colyte, Halflytely, MiraLAX, Softlax, ClearLax and MoviPrep.
i thought you were doing a low carb thing Eric?0 -

Burn more calories than you take in. Weight loss isn't a difficult topic, if you can get on top of your own mind it will be one of the easiest things you ever do.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

if only it was that simple there would be no fat people, rather than the epidemic we now have, the basic science is sound it is cals in and cals out, but the emotional and physiological aspects are very complexOMG Eric Pisch, just noticed your sig! Well done!

if you have any demons, debts etc you need to get on top of them before you start
after that controlling carb intake controls insulin which when it gets out of balance does seam to be a big part of the current problem we have
and eat protein with every meal it helps resist muscle wasting from calorie reduction and is an appetite suppressant0 -

Thanks  :rotfl:
I do know the calories in/calories out equation but, as you say, it is conquering one's own mind that is the key.
So... any tips on 'getting on top of my mind'?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

No debts here. Demons, hmm, not sure, what do you mean exactly?
I am trying to eat more protein, I am also drinking skimmed milk every day for protein, to make me feel fuller etc. Also, a recent health prog said that calcium can help stop fat being absorbed by the body. Not sure whether to believe it or not but hey!
Breakfast is always difficult for me to vary. I don't eat toast any more (only occasionally at weekends) and I hate cereals, I'm not a big fan of muesli unless it's one of the nutty ones (i.e. loaded with fat). I struggle to find a decent breakfast that I can eat at work and that will fill me till lunchtime!
Here are my usual options:
2 boiled eggs - my usual atm. Tasty, fills me most of the morning, easy to eat at work. Downside: possibly too many eggs = high cholesterol?
Porridge - hard to get the taste right as I don't like it plain and am reluctant to use sugar. Might try cinnamon? Also, it doesn't always fill me till lunch.
Fruit - tasty but defo not filling enough!
Low fat Greek yogurt - again, not filling enough.
That's about it! I really need inspiration for healthy breakfast ideas. Also healthy snacks. Anyone able to help? I would be so grateful.
I always try to drink herbal tea with breakfast to fill me up a bit more, and have about 3 cups through the day.
I hear that caffeine speeds up your metabolism, do you need lots of it though?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

That is really good weight loss Eric Pisch - you must be so happy with it! (that sounds really patronising but please don't read it that way
)
TaraFor healthy snacks, I have a box of weetabix mini's fruit and nut at the side of my desk at work, if I ever feel peckish I pick out a handful, about 5 or 6, and just eat them dry. The fruit adds sweetness and the nuts help fill you up, and as its weetabix it's a lot healthier than a chocolate bar or crisps. It works with me to do that and as it's dry you are not encouraged to eat more and if you wash it down with water that will help fill your stomach and get rid of 'hunger' pangs. I also find that because I know it's there, I'm not tempted to dive in every 5 mins and only have this every couple of days. I don't know if it will work for anyone else? Plus as you know on the toiletries challenge, to use up handcream I have a bottle of BS Raspberry body lotion on my desk as a handcream and it's so sweet, just the smell of it almost give you a sugar hit :Rotfl: - in a weird way if I crave something sweet I put this on my hands and the craving disappears.
I know my problem with the weight loss is that I just to drop a dress size, so as its a small difference, I have no motivation to do it :rotfl: . The less you have to lose, the harder it is to see results, but I think if i manage to do little things here and there gradually, I will have lost what I want to lose without any big mind change or impact on my life0 -

Granted, there are emotional and physiological aspects of it, but a lot of it comes down to simple laziness from my experience. I know my weight loss doesn't compare to yours (I've lost 84lbs but started at a lesser weight) but I've seen and heard so many people using the mantra 'I dont have time' or 'I was watching a programme on how to lose weight' or 'I want to lose it in a month' - they don't realise that the weight didn't go on quickly and sure as hell isn't going to come off quickly. They have time to sit and watch programmes about it but not enough time to go for a walk, and they expect diet pills or surgery to fix the problems they caused.
A lot of it (again, my experience) is the person failing to recognise that they are at fault for their weight. Nobody else. I'm a firm believer that the 'fat epidemic' we have is, for the majority, caused by laziness.
If someone is at a particularly high weight, going down the macronutrients route isn't a good way to get started. It simply has to be a restriction of unhealthy food and/or an increase in activity. Once the person reaches a more manageable weight then sure go down the carb limitation and protein increase route - but someone severely obese is far less likely to lose muscle as a result of calorie defecit.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Hi roshy, thanks for the tips. I know what you mean. Although I used to have to drop one dress size, now it's more like two!
Weetabix minis - never heard of them! Are they in the ordinary box? I don't really like raisins (hence disliking most mueslis) but I guess I could find a non-fruit version.
I am sitting here with 2 pears, a packet of Polos (for emergency sugar cravings) and a tube of Time Delay handcream, which I will keep using! I might swap it for Hand Food for the sweet fragrance. So I am ok for today but will defo try the Weetabix idea.

You are so right about the laziness problem. I don't actually watch much TV (about 3 hours a week if that), and I just so happen to be focusing on weight loss progs atm as it's January and they're everywhere!
I am fairly active even now, I walk/cycle to work for a start, which is more exercise than most of my colleagues ever get! But I used to be so much better, I have run numerous 10Ks and half-marathons in the past. And that's what I'm trying to get back to (well, that and 8.5 stone). I am going to get back into exercise (starting this evening), but I need some nutrition tips to stop me undoing all the good work with bad food choices. I don't eat processed meats or ready meals and I have a takeaway once in a blue moon.
My problem is chocolate. That is my one downfall and I am working hard on myself to stop eating it. I am also cutting down my portion sizes. But I could be unwittingly damaging my weight loss prospects by eating the wrong things, at the wrong times etc. So any 'science-based' advice you could give me would be gratefully received.
p.s. well done on your loss, very impressive. :TGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
