recovering_spendaholic wrote: »I am also going to rethink how I shop. At the moment I seem to spend some part of every other day in the supermarket buying stuff I don't need! I have 2 freezers full of meat, veg, hm ready meals and bread and yet I go in for - say - some milk, and end up filling one of those small trolleys full of stuff!
.
I totally understand that pattern! That really added to our financial problems because I was always in there buying when we didn't need it, a real shopoholic. I just used to find it relaxing and convinced myself that it was an 'allowable spend' because we needed to eat right?I was a lunatic. Half the time I didn't even know what was in the freezer and cupboards and would still buy takeaways when they were heaving. Madness.
Joining the Grocery challenge really centred my mind.
And you must keep posting. As everyone has said, different routes to the same place.. we all just want to hold hands on the journey.
WELL DONE Kyle on slimmer of the week! :T :j
Mum coming up for the day again. She is my anchor at the moment. Difficult day yesterday with DS1 (he was on phone half the day crying) Realised hes not fit to work at moment so he has had to leave his job. DH telling them today. Such a pity as he loves it but can't persuade him to go to docs yet so can't get sick leave.
Will really have to pull our belts in now as thats a financial blow as well as the worry of getting him well. We will survive! Things are rarely as bad as you think.
Back to scrambled eggs brains again when it comes to meal plan. Didn't have our chicken dinner yesterday as I was preoccupied with life so think we will have that today.
Just had toast and jam and I fancy the crackers and cheese for tea I didn't get yesterday. Had a tortilla instead for my tea.
Keep smiling everyone and keeping our joy for June.
Well done Sunnyday :T :T :TMAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Morning :hello:
:j :j :j :j Well done all the losers :j :j :j :j
I've got WI tonight  I will be very miffed if I haven't lost this week, I have stuck to SW 100%, I've kept a food diary on which I have recorded EVERYTHING that I've eaten including the Magnum I had last night
Because I was ill last week I had no alcohol at all so had LOADS of syns to play with........mmmmmm, empty calories and all that, makes you think.......
Soaked oats, yoghurt and berries for brekkie, I've got egg salad for lunch so might go and get a tub of cottage cheese to top it up a bit. Melon and grapes for snacks and quorn saugage and mash for tea (after WI)
I'm going to try a new dance class tonight, round the corner from home so not too far to go.
Loads of walking today, I'm on the bus 'cos OH needs the car  and have done 4000steps already today. Might take me a while to get home as well with the fuel protests that are planned round here today!
See you later :A0 -
Morning all
Back from a short wander.. about 1hr in total..but its so bloomin hot -im chuffed i did thatIts 77 here -indoors in the shade and its only 11am
I did treat myself to 2 kilo of fresh apricots mmmm and a big tub of krautsalat nomnomnom:D ..... oh and the goats cheese roll with basil in it -that is super nommy -only if hubby asks tell him its herb as he doesn't like basilyet he loves this :rotfl:
Meals for me today :-- brekkie -30g of meusli and milk
- lunch -think its going to be fruit..i have loads of it
- dinner -doing a pasta dish using the portion of hm chick n sweetcorn soup and the cream/egg/cheese mix left from making the quiche..with veggies in it mmmmmm
- snackies -fruit or yogurts
Oooooohhhh result on the baguettes...oh my god... they are amazing :j .. i did hubby a cheese salad one last night and had a bite -just the 1 mind and eeeee by gum they are far better than my normal bread and i make damn fine bread if i say so myself.
So they will be getting done on a regular basis -hubby has taken a cheese salad 1 with him today -they are that big they need cutting in 3 :rotfl: but its going to work out easier than making loaves for his pack up... 1 batch of those a week with a pasta salad or salad on the days in between and i don't have to keep thinking "how much bread do we have?"
Recovering/cheerfulness
I know where you are coming from tooI used to be terrible for nipping into the supermarkets.. even just for some exercise -but coming away with "extras" even though a lot of the time it was meal food not goodies.. its still extras we didn't need. Thats why i have started trying to have more NSDs.... until today i hadn't been to the shops since saturday. It really does help -as long as you have enough "good" stuff in to keep you going so you don't end up eating "whatever" just because its there...
Cheerfulness hope DS feels a little brighter soon..sending hugs to you all..keep going girl -you are doing great and coping wonderfully..and don't forget to ask for help when you need itand to put a little time aside each day for yourself
Well done on the losses SunnyDay and taplady :T

Hello everyone - well done Kyle on SOTW!
Cheerfulness - sorry that DS is still depressed - it's so hard to know what to do and if he won't go to the doctor then that makes it doubly hard. I never had depression until after the birth of DD1 and I have had it on and off since then. I resisted going to the doctor for ages but when I did she prescribed anti-depressants which worked wonderfully well and really really helped me. The I got this heart thingie and can't take that particular AD any more and I have been quite bad with it again. The only type of AD I can take has the side effect of increasing anxiety so I won't take it. I do hope you can persuade him to visit the doctor.
After yesterday's mad eating my guts are really giving me some gip (gurgling like Vesuvius and explosive wind:o )today so I am taking it lightly. I made a big protein drink thing for brunch - 1 tbs oats, bit of Slimfast powder, skimmed milk, banana and ice all blended together and it is really lovely. I have just finished drinking it! I will have another one made with some strawberries later and then if my stomach is feeling better I will have some tea. I have lots of leftover cooked chicken so will try and do something with that, or I have a 500g pack of extra lean mince with which I was going to make chilli, but given the state of my guts might have to wait until tomorrow :rotfl:
Beanielou - hope you feel better soon.
Mrs M - congrats on the baguettes - I have tried and failed to make them a few times - for some reason my hm bread always tastes "yeasty" - do you know what I mean? What am I doing wrong? Lucky you getting the fresh apricots - I loooove them but whenever I have bought them from the supermarket they are all dry and fluffy and not at all nice lately. My favourite fruits are greengages - I just love them and can't wait for them to come into season!
Well done on the loss Sunnyday!
Fingers crossed for WI tonight Rockie!
I bought some frozen fruit (black forest mixture) reduced in Mr T's last week and decided to make some jam with it. I defrosted it and then whizzed it in the processor and then seived it to get out the little seedy bits and then boiled it with some sugar to make seedless jam. I got 4 pots of jam for £2 and it is lovely - even both DD's say it is the nicest jam they have ever had. I am going to get some more if it is reduced again! I love making jam because it is not tempting to taste while making it and it still allows me to "cook" which I love doing, plus the end result isn't tempting for me as I never overeat jam. I also love making chutney - if anyone knows a good apple chutney recipe can they post it because I have a load of apples which are really sour and I don't want to waste them, and they are cox's so won't stew well.
Hope you are all having a good day - I am still working my way through the books!Jane
