Oh I'm sooo glad I found this thread.

I've been low carbing to try and lose weight but as it looks like my hours at work may be cut I can't afford to do this anymore and so had a chat about it with hubby last night.

We decided that we'd try and lose weight the old way - by eating healthily, cooking from scratch, and sticking to a budget, so this thread is fab for ideas as I'm currently rubbish at meal planning etc.

I'd like to do a meal plan but rather than say we're having x on Monday, y on Tuesday etc etc I just come up with the meal ideas for the week and then decide on the day which we'll have.

Does anyone else do this? If so, could you give me some ideas of the kinds of meals you're cooking that are both healthy, nutritious and cheap.

    Cheers, Jo x

Helllo and welcome on board giddykipper :D

That is how i meal plan :T work out the 7 main meals and then pick and choose what we have on what day as we go along.. depending on the weather, what we fancy and what stuff i want to use up first :p

Im just doing the plans for July... this week I did a chicken dinner on sunday but had enough chicken left over for a salad, a chicken pasta salad and then the carcass and leftover bits made chicken n sweetcorn soup (hubbies fave) and the chicken was whoopsed to €3 ... so £2.25 for 4 meals for 2

I also make tortilla wraps -i can post the recipe if you can't find it... they are really cheap and easy to make and also great for a change to sandwiches for lunch..and the fillings are endless that you can make

Hope thats of a little help..sure you will get loads of help on here :D

Hi all, hugs to all those that need them, and to all those with family health issues too :o

Hope all goes well for Mr Frog ;)

    Welcome all the newbies :D

I'm not doing too well at the moment, seem to be hungry all the time, but keep wanting snacks, crisps, mini sausage rolls, sweets etc (and still eating breakfast, lunch and a proper meal in the evening too) :o

Bought flapjack yesterday because I was so hungry and it cost a huge £1.30 (but was a very large strip) and ate it too quickly :o

So I'm trying to be good just for today.

Breakfast: oats soaked with tinned cherries and juice (nomnomnom and counts towards my 5 a day as I have half a tin a day :p)
Lunch: leftover smoke pork sausage and bean cassoulet from last night
Tea: sweet and sour chicken with veg.

    Snacks: an apple

Need to pop out later for bananas, apples, bread and milk - must make sure I don't buy anything snacky but I've a feeling it will be really difficult :o

MrsM - I planted some questions on the green fingered board in the thread about growing in pots - some very "I'm a div" type questions - but you might know the answers???

    I'm not happy
Gone to get my lunch out of the fridge, dropped it and some of it fell on the floor - so now I have 3/4 of my lunch but on top of that - I've picked up the wrong tub so I have cold tuna bean salad when I wanted reheated smoked pork sausage and bean casserole :(

    Morning all!

Made too much veggie stirfry last night, was full so didn't need any fruit. Even with the chocolate brownie I scoffed, I was only 97 calories over my target - so quite pleased all in all. Didn't have time to do any rebounding this morning as stripped the bed and did a little bit of mini hoovering, but intend to do 12-15 mins tonight.

    Today:
B: 1 slice toast with apricot jam
    S: pear
    L: leftover prawn stirfry
    S: plum
D: pork medallions, asparagus, new potatoes, sugarsnap peas
Desert: have a mango and 1/2 a dragonfruit which OH and I really shoudl eat today or tomrorow! x

Thanks for your replies and warm welcome.

Anyone seen this about how a big breakfast can help you lose weight and keep it off ..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7460729.stm

It goes back to the old breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper mentality. Might be worth a go though.
