Yeah too right! Otherwise where else would you find time to spend all day on MSE!The man without a signature.0 -
My local Asda started this a few days back, the green bags are 5p each. I have to say though, the Sainsburys ones hold much more, and are stronger - I put a 6pt of milk, some bananas and apples in one bag, carried it to the car and one of the handles came off!
I never remember to take used bags with me when I go shopping, so I'm sure I'm just going to end up buying several each time I visit.
It must be working though, because last night they were out of all free carriers and BFLs! Just as well I only wanted a couple of things eh.I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted

walking with heavy bags (plastic or otherwise) is not ideal over any kind of distance.
I recommned this: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/product.aspx/%212156"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -

I was parked in a parent space, so literally a minute from the doors. The others I've used so far have been fine, but my point was that it is possible for them to break on first use with not much in them.
[EDIT] Those trolly things look like the sort you'd use in a library. I'm not sure how effective that would be when you use a car to go shopping. On the bus perhaps.I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted

Sorry my post wasn't clear - it wasn't in direct reply to your post it was just a general comment about carrier bags. I always walk to/from supermarket and doing so with carrier bags is a bit of a nightmare when you buy a lot of stuff!"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" i cant believe people are complaining about the loss of free carrier bags!!!!!!!
free carrier bags were brought in in the eighties, and before that you had to pay for them.
for a matter of pence buy your own!
you have to pay for them in the smaller supermarkets ie; aldi, netto.0 -
I'm suprised no one has brought up the point of the OP removing food from it's original packaging and then putting it in more packaging. Surely this creates more waste? They take certain foods from the boxes to then discard of the boxes, to then replace the packaging with bags...makes no sense to me.0

Don't you make enough money out of us on food, everything I have bought today has gone up by at least 20p Rubbish, blatantly made up. They only have a 3.4% net profit margin anyway. You can't run a business much more efficiently then that.
I can appreciate that the cost of living has gone up but by how much ?
Called in to Asda today and among the nine items I bought some had gone up by a ridiculous amount -
500 ml Groundnut oil , previously 59p now £1.08
250g Lurpack butter previously 95p now £1.15
Maris piper potatoes , previously £1.39 now £1.79
Used to cost £2.93 for those three items now it's over 33% dearer at £3.92 .
P.s.
I took my own bags ( bag for life ) and used the self scan tills , had to wait for around two minutes to get an assistant to approve skip bagging as she was with another customer . I then had to wait again for her to approve it after each item I scanned after that , next time I'll forget about going green and use the disposable bags provided.0 -

Most likely wholesale increases.0 -
If OP's OH was charged 70p for the green bags in Asda, then he should go back with the bill and the bags, they are 5p.
It's not just Asda's where you'll find an increase - all stores have hiked the prices up. I feel some are genuine and some not. I wouldn't mind if my wages had gone up too.....Well, not so much..
