umm I've read the thread, and reported it, as its jut turned into a who can insult the most thread. To be honest I can see both sides...starting off by slating the judge didnt help & then being abusive ang always tends to make those who want a fight rub there hands in glee! I suggest possibly thinking of your own comments, editing where appropriate and leaving the others to it! Good luck! Do wonder if the suggestion to sell, get rid of debts & rent for a while was actually a good one but dont know your circ...

I have said before that the 'Mortgages' board is a vicious place if you post mortgage/debt problems.
You are far better posting on DFW but sadly you cant often get the reply you need as specialist mortgage people who could help don't post in DFW.

I have just read the thread, which is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=918025&page=3 for anybody who wants to look at it.

I would like to say that it looks like both sides could have handled it differently and things written in haste and anger never leads to a good ending.

I would say that there are mortgages available for the OP and I would say that it was wrong to call people thieves. Unfortunately the HOUSE boards are used by a lot of landlords, house price crash and people that actually do not even own a house because they have sold to rent or are looking to save to buy their houses with the smallest possible mortgage.

Anyway, I would like to say that there are many reasons why people cannot repay their debts and it will be a minority that start out with the intention of never repaying it back and I would hope that the any person that comes to the MORTGAGEs board will be treated with a little more respect that the HOUSE boards.

I think the point with these other boards is that the support given can be tough love sometimes. Anyway, I hope the OP sorts a mortgage out soonish.

First off - OP, sorry I am not able to give you specialist advice on this, and it sounds like that might be what you need. Can you talk to your local CAB or any similar org?

I'd echo ISOM's thoughts on using the equity to pay off debts but as already said, it does depend on your circumstances.

In the short-term if you've lost your job, make sure you're claiming whatever benefits you're entitled to. Also if you own your own house can you consider taking in a lodger to help towards covering the bills, at least in the short term?

    OK - sorry I can't give more specific advice - HTH :)

Well ... I read through the thread and it seems to have deteriorated into a slanging match. I have not replied on the thread and have reported it. I am hoping others on here who read it will do the same - lets not dignify their comments with a response.

I would like to add that if we on the DFW board are saving ourselves £££s and getting ourselves out of debt due to giving each other so-called "pure huggles" advice, then long may it continue I say! :)

  • Totally agree BH, Hind sight is a very good thing. If we could go back in time and put right all the things we have done wrong then we don't learn any lessons, i've definite learn will never touch credit again
I look at the figure we started with and a year on the debt is lower, we have survived on what we earned and not used credit (could'nt anyway). That makes us feel good.
I wish people would'nt judge others unless you are in their shoes ( as my mum would say).
These are my views i don't want to upset anyone.

Yes you read it correctly - if you have borrowed money and cant pay it back for whatever reason - some users on this board have said it should be classed as stealing - can you belive this attitude ????!!

    or is it me ?

the thread is MORTGAGE WITH A CCJ in house buying renting and selling
To be fair you sounded very angry at the fact you had the means to pay the debts via the house equity and that the charging order to force you to use assets you had to pay a debt was your bug bear. I think it did sound like you wanted to keep the considerable lump sum of equity but not pay the debts which is very different to being unable to pay. You were also quite rude and personal about legal staff who were just following proper legal processes and doing their job.

My advice is to go see a solicitor and find out where you stand as it isnt your debt but you are being penalised. Then I would get the house on the market and get it sold, clear off your debts and rent for 2-3 years. I read an article recently that said no-one should consider buying for at least 4 years, thats my aim, to be debt free by nov 09 and then save save save.

We all borrow money with the intention of paying it back but sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that happen in life that prevent some people from paying debts back.

I've just had a quick look too and I'm shocked by some of the things I read.

I'm shocked by some of the comments the OP made as well to be honest

My feeling is that there is a big difference amongst the different boards on this forum. I tend to find that there is great support for people on here - the kind of support that is helpful and sympathetic also.

On some of the other boards, the help is there but its delivered with no empathy. Its a case of you want my opinion, well here it is. Its not what you want to hear or because of the emotional state of mind you can be in when you are in trouble, its like ticking time bomb...

I just think the OP got the wrong board for the question and it was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. No point dwelling on it, afterall its only words and I doubt anybody, even the OP would talk to people in real life in the manner they sometimes do on here...

At about this time last night I bobbed over to the thread in question and saw what was raging and quickly scuttled away.....I don't think Gandhi or Mother Theresa could have posted safely in that lions den.
