The bit about the judge being an old git, may not have been the right opening, however that shouldn't excuse some of the awful comments left on there and ganging up on someone.

I tried to be constructive on the other topic for you if you want to nip across and read. As a general rule I try to sit on the fence with most things and just post advice.

We all borrow money with the intention of paying it back but sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that happen in life that prevent some people from paying debts back.

I've just had a quick look too and I'm shocked by some of the things I read.

I agree it is stealing if you sign a contract with never any intention to pay back but if you are just unlucky in life it is not theft it is poop luck!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. If you borrow/spend money with absolutely no intention of paying it back then I would say yes that is stealing. I'm off to find the relevant post and have a read now.

i am absolutly shocked about what was said, even if they didnt agree with your comments ther was no need at all for the BULLYING tactics at all, i thought everyone on here were adults who give/receive genuine support/advice. I'm so angry at how people are treating each other calling someone a "faliure" is one of the biggest put downs peeps on here could get. thry clearly have nothing else to do with their life apart from giving abuse it looks and feels like that board is A BREEDING GROUND FOR TROLLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does depend on your motives TBH, if you go BR because it will take a long time on a DMP to pay back your debts than it can be classed as wrong. Same as quitting your job to avoid paying maintanance.
A DMP isn't stealing butbit is breaking the contract you signed, that said we are in a DMP and paying back as much as we can.

Actually I can see both sides of the discussion TBH and I'm never particularly offended by opinions on here- it's only one persons point of view after all...but name calling doesn't really do anyone any credit.

There are times that people can be reckless when borrowing. Taking on commitments which are too high and carrying on spending is certainly foolish but I think that calling it theft is a bit too harsh. However, having said that, life is tough and sometimes we can't have everything that we either want or want to keep. For instance, after my redundancy, I knew that I had to find another job to pay my debts or I could potentially be made homeless. It doesn't do anyone any favours to always be over sympathetic , sometimes the truth has to faced, hard though it may be to do so.

I'm sure though, that we can all do that and carry on giving good advice without resulting to insults and point scoring.

Sorry, I can't offer any advice re. the mortgage situation, but having just read that thread over on the Housing board I was pretty taken aback by the really obnoxious and condescending tone some of them are taking towards you.

I recall there was an instance a while back where an OP was reduced to tears because of comments made by some of the 'charmers' on that board!

Hope you get things sorted soon.
