Why is my Router showing as an unsecured network? It is a Draytek 2600W, and it is password protected, and has the WEP set up for the wireless connection?

Thanks - DG

try and connect to it without a WEP key, if it doesn't connect its probably shoddy windows for you saying its not secure.

if it does connect then you have a slight problem, you could try setting up the router from scratch again.

No it will not allow a wireless connection without me adding the wep key. Sorry its not WEP, it is the Access control via the MAC code, whatever that one is.

As stated in the last link in post #6 the 2600 does support WPA encryption. You can download a firmware update here.

Thanks espresso, I always have a healthy respect for things which say firmware:eek: , registry:eek: , interpret it a fear if you like:o , so could I ask for some instructions, I am good at following those;) .

I have download the Standard, UK, Extended UK and Tools to my desktop, a bit lost after that as none of the txt files open.

Not familiar with your Draytek model but normally you simply download the firmware update, extract the files from the downloaded zip file to your hard drive. Login to the router and go to the Update page, point to the location of the files on your hard drive and let it update.

OK, I am being very brave at the moment, and ran the Tools extract, which had a firmware upgrade facility. It asks for the router path which I have, and then the file to use, there are to files a .rst and a .all any clues to which I should use?
    Thanks

Note : The RST file will clear out all existing router settings back to factory
defaults. You must use the RST file if you are upgrading from firmware 2.1r or
earlier, or experience unusual results after upgrading with the ALL file.
