I do. When I applied for a Halifax CC last month I was declined. I appealed and received a letter saying too many credit searches had lowered my score too far.

Do Catalogue/credit card comapany's do unrecorded searches every month?

I know Next have in the past. Most of them are for insurance quotations and secondary searches for CC applications.

Yes they do every 3-6 months

They either increase it after 3 or 6 payments. Mine was the latter from £250.
