Now that is a Pi$$ take and a half!

    Congrats!

Get NEXT catalogue as well :D U don't have to buy anything from them. It's fun going through the catalogues on a boring sunday evening though.

My NEXT account doesn't report to any of the CRA's ... I've had it for over a year now ...

If you want to try a couple of other catalogues Justy, try the JD Williams family of catalogues: Jacamo, Fashion World, Simply Be, Shoe Taylor, Home Essentials, etc, they check Experian only but report to all three CRA's. If your Equifax file is ok try Sygma Bank family of cards, JJB, The Accessory Card, Flybe, Adams etc, they only check Equifax and give you Accpet, Refer or Decline online decision.

When I applied for the JJB it said we'll let you know in 10 -14 days ... and then the bu***rs turned me down even though my Equifax file is ok .... :D

    Hi Tori

That is unusual they have been the longest account on my file now I have nearly 3 years with them under my belt. I think it was yourself who said you have the same problem as me with the address issue i.e. having more than one format.

Next use Equifax for their searches and to provide them with address information / confirmation so when they report to other agencies they report using the address they found on Equifax. If this has changed then your report will not appear on Equifax either. If the other agencies dont hold details of your Equifax address format it wont appear, it just floats around on their system. Callcredit say their system is more intelligent but that is up for debate as they have had to manually look me up on the Electroal Roll with a lot of poking and prodding each year and then had to change my address from the Council version to the proper Royal Mail version.

An example is my offical Post Code Address File (it is the proper way in which Royal Mail decide what you address shoud look like) it takes this format:

Flat floor number/positon of flat on the floor,
    House number, Anystreet,
    Anytown,
    AN1 1AA

The coma represents each separate field (but these change with different databases as you will see.

Then there is the Council's way of recording it on the Electoral Roll

HOUSE floor number postion of flat on the floor, (no space, hypen or slash)
House number Anystreet, (note the House numer and name are in the same field)
    Anytown,
AN1 1AB (note the different post code)

However this can be expressed in many different ways and each or the CRA's hold a differnt one, Equifax hold this as (when I moved in Equifax did not even have my address on their computer system and this block of flats was built in the 1960's):

floor number-position of flat on the floor House number, (flat postion with a hypen not a slash and house number in the same field)
    Anystreet,
    Anytown,
    AN1 1AA

they cannot store the flat details and house number in a separate field.

    Experian holds this as:

floor number flat number (not space, slash or hypen),
    House Number, Anystreet
    Anytown,
    AN1 1AA

Their system can hold lots of different variants, so I have linked address which are really my own address in the same format as Equifax and the Council plus 3 other different variants.

Callcredit now hold the Post Office format, and link the other together automatically. Equifax hold only one format and I have had to have my other accounts with a different format linked manually by asking them to search their records for me.

Then there is one last problem in that it transpired a few months back although NTL was sending me my statements every month to my correct address the address they were reporting my data to Equifax with was missing my flat number. Equifax managed to tie this up to my file and query it with NTL getting them to change their records so it showed automatically every month.

I discovered they were not reporting my flat position after Equifax started reporting I now lived at another flat lower down in the block, this was because someone else living their had the surname Smith (they had recently moved in a put their name on the rolling Electoral Register) and the computer simply counted up the flats until it came to the first one it found a Smith at and put my record on there!!!! yes I know. (now they are VirginMedia, who use Experian instead and someone has had the NTL record removed from my Equifax file and it is now missing from them all, all I can think of is it will not appear until I move and my new address still has cable).

I hope I have not confused you too much, it got very complicated at one point.

But it is likely Next are reporting to all 3 agencies only the data is sitting on their computers not linked to your file and this could be happening with other creditors too. I would call up Experian on their freephone number and hit I think it is number 5 for "information in my credit report" and ask them to search for a Next Directory account using your post code then if it is there get them to link it and find out just how Next have your address recorded.

Equifax are also far faster at looking in to these things and getting them fixed than any other agency I have seen them do it on the same day if I use the query facility on their website, but you cannot talk to them as you can with Experian (at least for free) who will give you an answer over the telephone as long as you have your Credit Expert report number.

Hope this helps you get the information loaded on to your credit file.

    James

    Morning All,

Some great info on here. Thanks OPs

I currently use a Capital One classic card, had it since Jan 08, with a limit of £100 - my credit rating isn't the best but has improved alot. However, we are now in June and no increase in limit whatsoever - even though I pay £25 per wk via standing order to my account.....Any ideas???

Also applied for a Vanquis card a fortnight ago to be declined.....again any ideas????
 Debts: Capitalone £0, Vanquis £220, LX Direct £1197, Mutual £1107, JD Williams £23
