  • I'm currently having big rows with Cap1, they were my first CC many moons ago, but when I had difficulties a few years back when I was a student, I did a bit of burying my head in the sand redface.gif

When I finally pulled it back out again, I contacted all my debtors with offers of repayment, as I hadn't defaulted on any of them, and all but Cap1 accepted my offer. I had a balance of £1400, and I offered them £50 pcm until my situation improved. They refused, on several occasions, despite me contacting them both in writing and over the phone. They wouldn't accept anything less than £300 pcm, which I told them was absolutely ridiculous, as I'd submitted an income/expenditure form from which they could clearly see it was beyond my means! angry-smiley-030.gif

I then just ignored them as I couldn't afford to pay it, when I moved house I forgot about it. Now, they want their money back. I'm not averse to paying my debts at all, but I feel that they shafted me so well the last time, they're going to have a fight on their hands. So I'm in the process of using all the legal jargon and loopholes I can find to tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine biggrin.gif

Don't want to put anyone off, I'm sure that on the whole they're great. Just wanted a bit of a rant about it really!

    Hi There

I recently applied for and was accepted for a Vanquis Card(Trying to rebuild credit history), was surprised to say the least when I got a phone call yesterday to say I had been accepted, no mention of credit limit although she did say I could get an immediate cash advance of £200, so I am thinking that I have been given a low limit(all the beter not to lead me into temptation), has anyone anyhting positive to say about Vanquis as all the BB's I have read slag them off.

Hello and welcome to the thread, I am also a Vanquis customer and they seem to be an ok company to deal with, they are polite and helpful and their call centres are in England..., they start you off with a low limit but increase it over time, use the card with care you will be on the road to a sound credit rating.

  • Hi kiora, nice to have you with us action-smiley-033.gif

I have a Vanquis card, which started out with a £250 limit. 12 months later it's now £1000, and aside from the really high interest rate, I've found them to be fine. The best thing to do is to use it a little every month in place of your normal spending with cash/debit card, say for something like one of your supermarket shops, then pay it off at the end of the month. That way, you won't be charged interest, you'll build up a lot of nice little green shiny circles on your credit file, and hopefully within 6 months they'll increase your limit biggrin.gif

A lot of people don't like cards like Vanquis, Aqua or the Capital One Classic, but I think a lot of us here in the sub-prime club would disagree, they've given us a route back to building a good credit history which can only be a good thing sport-smiley-001.gif
