  • Hi all,

As I posted before my Dad passed away on 13th Jan and I am his next-of-kin and executor of his will.
Been really busy over the last 10 days sorting out things like registering the death, contacting insurance companies, closing his bank account, arranging the funeral.(on Fri 30th)..flowers etc.
What has really shocked me is how expensive things are to arrange when someone passes away. Basic cost of funeral (cremation) £2,600, death certificates £17, announcement in local paper £158:eek:, flowers £150.

My Dad had no savings as such...he had about £2,700 in the bank so that will cover the basic cost of the funeral..

He had a fully paid up life insurance policy with the co-op...I called them the day after he died to say we needed to make a claim but because I could not confirm the address he was living at when the policy was taken out(taken out by my late Mum) they said I would have to write in to request a claim form...I had to send a copy of his death certificate and a copy of his will. I sent that back by special delivery over a week ago but have still not heard back!!! So no doubt it will be another phone call to chase up what is happening!

Any other things of Dad's I am paying off using my Aqua and Vanquis cards so I hope the insurance thing does not take too long to sort out as I really need access to those funds!

Hope everyone on here is ok...

Would like to apply for a mainstream card soon but have 1 late payment in the last year...will this scupper my chances?

    Thanks

    Helen

    Sorry about your lost.

Have you tried Flybe, they are a mainstream card but offer a few people on this forum a credit card with good limits.

    Jack

Are you aware that you can claim to cover some of the cost of a funeral, you can claim up to £700.

When my husband died the final cost of everything including headstone came to nearly £4k
If he has debts contact them and send a copy of his death certificate and will showing there is nothing in the estate and they will write them off.

OMG -I would never have thought this possible a year ago but I can confirm that I am now the holder of a mainstream card! My Flybe Mastercard came through the post today. My credit limit is a whopping £3000 and my APR is 24.9% which is half of my Vanquis. I am so made up and really feel like I am not only repairing my credit rating but getting closer to my dream of my own house (I have a big deposit which gets bigger every month but would never have been able to get a mortgage with my history).
