Hi, I need some advice, I bought 5 ready meals at 79p each in Tesco today. Offer on SEL and printed on pack stated buy 5 for £3.50 - saving a huge 45p. Checked my receipt before leaving store and saw multibuy had not been deducted. Went to CS and pointed this out. Was told that I had not bought 5. Checked through receipt with CS and ticked off 5 ready meals I had purchased and pulled 5 packs out of my shopping. I was then offered the 45p, I pointed to the large notice - If things don't add up and was told this didn't apply but I could have the 45p. Another CS jumped in and said that I was only entitled to 45p but begrudgingly offered me 79p - the price of one pack.

I feel that the offer was for 5 packs and not on individual packs so I should be entitled to a full refund and keep the product under their advertised price promise.

What do you guys think? Am I correct? If so, how can I pursue this further?

Absolutely the price on the pack clearly indicates the offer and as with BOGOF you have been overcharged if the offer is not applied, a quick call to their head office will confirm this, don't forget to ask them to contact the store and explain to ensure no problems when you return.

Yes, I think although a little more unusual than most overcharges I reckon Ben500 is correct. You have bought a bundle of items expected to cost £3.50 and if a discount was not applied you'd have been overcharged on the bundle of items, not a particular item within the bundle. Therefore in my view you'd be entitled on a refund on all the products within the bundle, not just the overcharge amount and not just one of the products. Given it is such a small amount I don't know why they gave so much hassle in the first place.

How very generous of them !!

Make sure your next visit costs them considerably more than 45p or £3.50 ;);)

    Another Little Bit Helps?

Having just enrolled in three Tesco Clubs several hours back, shall now join all I ignored earlier(kiddie/fambly) so as to receive MANY coupons/vouchers/offers irrelevant for me, but useful to others as swaps.
It felt like a Eureka moment, but was doubtless thought of by Betters and Elders(in MMSer terms)long ago.

Maybe someone on here could tell me, or point me to a thread that does:

What is Tesco's policy on using coupons for items you aren't buying?!?

At the weekend I spent £50 and tried to use a 50p domestos coupon and a 15p Warburtons Milk Roll coupon, neither of which I brought and I got told I could only use 1 becaues I hadn't brought either of them. Is this right?

I felt a right prat stood there arguing over a 15p coupon but the snobby little black and white farm animal on the till was too far up on her high horse to even listen to what I was saying!!

    Thanks

This seems to differ at different stores. I used a £3 joey dvd voucher the other day without buying the dvd. The checkout guy simply scanned it, didn't even give it a glance. Maybe you were unlucky with the checkout assistant?
I can't see anything on their website about the use of coupons, but chances are I've not looked hard enough!
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • Agree it varies from store to store: had a £3 coupon accepted for a £4.50 spend in one where the limit was one coupon. Another store will no longer accept a coupon if you haven't bought the product and my regular one still takes 10% of the bill (unless the cashier is unaware of the policy and needs guidance from the checkout supervisor  ).

It does vary from one store to another, but as a rule, try and go for a young bloke on the checkout. Don't go for girls or older ladies :)
