What's the rug made of? Is it wool, wool mix, fluffy fake fur, etc. etc.?

I always fall back on Vanish, with extra help from Vanish PowerShot and/or Shout (laundry stain pre-treatment but it works on carpets) when we have this happen.

I have got a bottle of Stardrops but not actually tried it out yet :o .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

on the back it says -
handmande in india - 95% wool 5% viscose

Remove spills immediatley (thesick looks as if it has been thre all day!!!) If liquid, blot with aclean undyed cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals as they may damage or fade the rug.

    professional dry clean only
    surface clean only
    Do not use heat method

Oh help, it isn't leaving you many options is it? :(.

I'm a bit concerned by the "professional dry clean only" bit - that would probably cost you more than the rug did.

Have you got any mild soap or handwash liquid? (I mean liquid for handwashing clothes, not for washing your hands!). All I can suggest is to try blotting with a damp cloth, then a slightly wetter cloth, then a weak solution of one of the above detergents, and so on until something makes a difference.

Otherwise it's probably cat in the doghouse, and a new rug  .

My cat is sick on a daily basis on my cream carpet so I am an expert on this subject! Go to the supermarket and get a carpet shampoo spray for carpet cleaning. Spray on, rub gently with a sponge. Rinse with sponge and clean water. Dab with kitchen towels. Try and do this when wet if it has dried out completely hoover first and then do as suggested before.

The Vanish carpet spray is the best one I've tried. Our cat is also sick on a regular basis-he's nearly 18- and one stain wouldn't come out of the carpet. We don't want to replace the carpet although it's nearly as old as the cat . I tried everything from 1001 carpet shampoo to biological washing powder but the Vanish spray has finally shifted it. It took two applications but there was an improvement after the first attempt. It's in a pink container.
