Welcome to the board catinthehat1. My first suggestion would be to post a statement of your affairs, there is a sticky regarding this at the top of the page. This will give you and people here, a clear indication of what you have coming in a month and where that money is going to. Then people can advise you on how best to tackle that debt.

I know things seems pretty rubbish at the moment, but coming on here is the first step and will have you on your way to tackling the debt. I also suggest reading other threads on here as there is loads of helpful info, am sure someone else will be along in a minute with some!

    Hi Cat :hello:

Welcome to the forum, your not alone were all here to help if we can.

It would help if you can post your SOA (Statement of Affairs) click here.

On Monday call one of the debt charities for further advice, my advice at this stage, never use a fee paying debt agency for any advice / assistance, they cannot offer you anymore help / assistance than the debt charities.

Click here for a list of the debt charities.

    Hi Cat

OK thanks for that, the 1st thing that stands out is your gas & electricty, total £154.00 per month, there are many dual tariffs on the market, have to tried for any on these?

Also, your grocery bill seems very high, is there a reason for that?

Also water £54.00 seems high, have you considered a water meter?

Gas & elec - we owe so British gas have just asked us to pay £100 per month to clear!!
We haven't considered a water meter, just because I don't think we can have one - and have 4 chn - with older son who visits - all have a lot of baths/showers

The food bill is high - we try to save- have got an allotment, so trying to grow our own, chn just eat, eat & eat

Cat, is there a reason why the car insurance is so high?

they want us to clear a £300 debt, so the £100 includes what we are using as well - obviously if we clear it then we will think about changing
