Off with depression only scored 4 points after their ridiculously manipulated medical :mad: - none of the questions asked were answered honestly by the so called "medical expert" manipulating and twisting my answers

This is the worrying bit which is cropping up again and again in reports of failed medicals - some doctors are not putting down what the person is saying or are twisting their words so they sound much more capable of work than they are.

Did you go into the medical alone? It's always a good idea to have someone else with you to back up your story if you need to appeal.

Put in an appeal - with help from welfare rights officers. Look through the doctor's report carefully - look for information he has written down that is factually wrong - try not to get too emotional about (easier said than done, I know!).

Put a claim in for Income Support in the meantime.

Do posts like this really help the OP, or anybody currently suffering with depression or other mental health conditions?

Please remember that this board is about helping people get their entitlement, not giving personal opinions on whether certain conditions make a person capable for work or not.

I could have sworn we live in the UK where there is still free speech however I forgot about the Hoxton Thought Police.

My apologies for having an opinion based on personal experience and having the nerve to speak it out loud. Please don't report me to your overlords, dmg24, I hear that the electric shock therapy isn't that pleasant.

You can claim IS as long as you appeal against the deision to stop your IB. If you dont appeal you would have to fit into one one the groups you can clain IS instead of JS. That is lone parent/carer. Just to say to ianian99 above im not sure if your post is a dig but id like to say from experience(i have scitzoaffective/bio-polar disorder) yes you would starve to death because in some cases it is imposable to work. Id like a job but as i cant get any help to sort my mental health problems out so i cant cope with work or any thing else, if it came down to it i would be homesles and starve, not because i cant be bothered but because the goverment wont give mental health services money to help people cope in society. Think before you post.

Can you explain how having mental problems makes you have no money and end up on the street.

I have bipolar and have been homeless and with no food. A vast majority of people with MH issues are not in the care system so dont get the support they need to fill in forms, and get benefits. It's a slippery slope. I had a house, job, etc until I got ill.
I am lucky now - have a nurse who helps me, and other support, but the care system is so over loaded people do and will fall through the safety net that is meant to care for those that need it

People with depression etc may, in theory, be 'better off' working for the therapeutic value, but in practice forcing them to do something they do not feel capable of doing will only exacerbate their situation.

I am sure that the OP would love to be back in work, but it has to be at their own pace. You don't suddenly recover from mental health problems just because a DWP doctor tells you that you're fine.

As a DWP doctor tried to get my dad back to heavy physical work a month before he died of mis-diagnosed cancer I would certainly try the appeal route if you feel unable to work due to your condition.

At my OHs first "medical" about 10 years ago now the doctor didnt believe he couldnt put his arm above his head and actually forced it, causing great pain and also set his recovery back. To top it all not enough points awarded and benefit stopped. It took six months to get money reinstated and back paid nearly lost our home from it.

Been very wary ever since, rechecked almost every year, and he has scored over double the 15 points needed each time. Some of these "doctors" just dont seem to believe what they are told or see they just fill in what they want. It does help to have doctors support.

Hope the appeal goes quickly and smoothly OP

And I thought they assumed that only people with MH problems were malingerers.

    Sorry about your dad.

You will get paid up to the 16th. They'll also notify HB/CTB so you need to inform them of a change of circumstances first. And you'll need to fill in a claim for IS.

The thing is, many people who are suffering from depression would benefit from being in work. Being sat at home does you no good whatsoever - I speak from experience.

surely such a bold statement should be prefaced with "in my humble opinion"
