Think you should appeal but this will not be easy, you really need an expert to fill in the form for you as you have to be very careful about what you write. I suspect that an appeal would be turned down too which would probably mean going to tribunal and I know from experience that unless you are a solicitor or doctor, that is someone who can really talk and put their point of view across you would not be successful. CAB would be able to assist but definitely dont try it alone. By the way what was your job before your illness, think maybe a course or training program could really help you medically and would boost your confidence considerably. Keep your chin up & good luck

    Thanks all

I do call centre work i'm 26 - no partner or kids? how much Income support will i get?

I've worked most of my life....condition mainly surrounds crippling social phobia...which makes starting new jobs incredibly difficult...as most involve classroom based training courses where you have to leave your dignity at home...silly games and role-playing is the norm  nightmare for anything with social phobia....i figured if i go through the cbt to help my confidence/change thought pattern this will help me into work

i'm going to put my appeal letter in straight away...

...they've said they've wrote to my doctor as well? What will they say?

Just to add could you ask your CBT to write a letter of support for your appeal. The more supportive evidivence the greater the chance of your appeal being upheld.

Good Luck and keep us updated.

Claim IS while you appeal you should get £60.50 as a single person you may(or maynot) depending on on they look at appealing a IB medical get a disability premium added which is worth £25.85. Think worst case(£60.50 only) then if you do get disability premium as well its a bonus. You will get max CT & HB while on IS. Also if your problems affect your ability to go places and you have trouble with personal care(getting washed etc because of mental health problems) i reccomend applying for DLA also. For this make sure you send in lots of supporting evidence and keep copies as you will need this for your IB appeal. If you already get DLA you will get disibilty premium added on if you get it and severe disability if you get middle rate added AS WELL as disability so its worth applying for. Good luck.

I've worked most of my life too. 6 years ago I was single, 54, living on my own and was made redundant. I had to go for an interview at a call centre and I had to go into training and role play. I certainly didn't enjoy it especially as 95% of the other trainees were much younger than me. I needed the job so I got on with it. That job led to another one so I never had to claim any benefits. It would be better for you if you clain JSA because at your age (26) the future isn't good if you expect to spend the rest of your life on benefits.

If the OP claims Income Support during the appeal process they will receive the basic single persons allowance reduced by 20% which will be about £48 per week.

£48 per week? nobody can live on that..especially with the cost of fuel bills nowdays...and rising food costs

thing about JSA is they send you on stupid training courses full of chavs - how long after claiming does this new deal nonsense start?

she better hope i don't bump into her....

Why, what you are you going to do? Throw up on her?

Sounds like a particularly nasty threat to me. She was doing her job, don't take it so personally and make veiled threats on an Internet forum.

You appear determined not to help yourself and unfortunately you are coming across as a pretty unpleasant person.

You don't do yourself any favours with comments like that.

healy is correct, you will only receive a reduced rate of IS whilst appealing.
