OS Daily for Saturday 17th May 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 15th May, 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before y ou go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all – I wonder if I dare start the thread? The last time I did mine was the last of three starts on the same day!
Anyway, SMOKY – so good to see your post. Yesterday must have been very difficult for you and the LOs. I think you are doing so well. How good is your boss?! It’s wonderful that you have been able to adjust your work to fit in with the children. Good luck with everything.
PENPIN - I know you won’t be reading this but good luck to you.
PIPPA.D – any news?
MRSMIX - thinking of you.
CHURCHMOUSE - :hello: :hello: :hello:
(((Hugs))) to all those who are feeling unwell or anxious.
Well, today we are going round to see the grandchildren – they are longing to see Nan and Grandad on their new Wii Fit thing. I have no idea what it even looks like but they and their Mum and Dad have been having great fun with it; I’m looking forward to that. Plus, while we’re there, DS1 will be giving me strict instructions on watering his precious veg garden while they are away next week, in Iceland of all places. DIL’s brother is getting married there! DS1’s garden is beautiful and he has just put in new raised veggie beds and moved the lawn from one part of the garden to the other. He has got such green fingers – it makes us laugh because, when he was a teenager I can remember him saying ‘don’t you get bored with all the gardening you do?’ All I could say was ‘just you wait until you get your very own garden and your very own house!’ Now he’s hooked; everything he plants is a success. I love the fact that DGS and DGD know exactly where all their fruit and veg come from; I managed to pick up a lovely children’s book called ‘Growing Things’ so I shall take that round this afternoon.
I shall be doing pizza for tea because we’ll be out all afternoon and I have to confess it’s a shop-bought one! It’s the only one we like and it cost £2.99 – I can hardly believe the price but I suppose that’s only £1.50 each for DH and me. I shall do a healthy salad to go with it!
I was really careful with my food shopping yesterday and it still came in at £79! Mind you, that did include a lot of baking stuff – I stocked up on bread flour and regular flour, yeast, sultanas, cherries, almonds, coconut and so on. That alone must have cost about £8 but at least it’s all there now. I hate deciding to make something then finding that I haven’t got the ingredients! I also stocked up on pasta and rice because prices are rising so much; at least I won’t have to buy all that for a couple of months. On the plus side, I have bought cheap cuts of meat from the butcher and will be doing a lot of low-cost meals – I hope.
Anyway, I’m waffling – I must go and have my shower.
See you all later.

Morning kathy and all to follow,
I woke around 4.00am coughing and managed to disturb Mr Pink so I got up for a while…two hours later and I’m still awake.
Haribo and family arrived last night but unfortunately I was working so haven’t had a chance to catch up with them properly yet. It’s Dad’s 70th birthday on Tuesday so we’re all going out for dinner tonight. I’m looking forward to catching up with our brother and his children too as I haven’t seen them for a while.
Smoky, I was thinking of you yesterday…I was glad to read that you and the kids got through the day. I hope ds enjoys his adventure day.
Mrs Mix, ((hugs)).
Penny Pincher, I hope all goes well for you.
Catowen, I hope your leg is on the mend.
Right, I’d better go and put the washing machine on and pour another coffee before I begin the day.

Morning all, woke just after 4 due to pain in my arms, couldn't get back to sleep so got up and put the Bm on. That will be ready for lunch to go with pea and ham soup, simmering away now. Mum didn't arrive yesterday but will be here about 10am. I'm so tired and have a long day looming, plan to take her out for a couple of hours, DD2 and Sil are coming this afternoon, so there will be 6 for dinner.
Pen Pin thinking of you and wishing you well.
Smoky, I'm pleased to hear that the work pressure has eased, didn't know you have a legal wrangle to battle, you could do without that. I hope you're getting all the help needed. Try and take some time out for yourself.
((((((((( hugs to you both and all in need)))))))))))
Need another coffee, catch yah all later0 -
Morning all
Just a very quick post. Am off to London in a minute to go to my tutorial. Hope it stops me from panicking and stress eating about this. I've never done anything like the final assignment and I don't want to fail it as I want it all to be over by July 24th.
Hugs to all who need one, SMOKEY thinking of you. PENPIN good luck!
Catch you later

Morning all. Haven't posted on the daily for a while, I've been out and about too early to get online at a reasonable (!) hour.
Just wanted to send best wishes and good luck to PP today, hugs to Smokey and her family and everyone else in need (sorry, I've not caught up on the daily chatter yet).
Cool here this morning but I have lots of ironing to do so that will warm me up.
Am so looking forward to tonight, am having dinner with my girly friends, haven't seen them for nearly three months so lots to catch up on.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning.
All is well here. A bit dark and wet, but as I am workinf later, I don't really care.
Fishing went well yesterday, got a freezer full, the weather was good with only one shower and everyone had a good time.
Work later and I intend to spend 90 minutes of it watching the footy! Then it's likely to get busy.
Well have a nice weekendNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Goodness I might be on the first page for once
Hugs Hugs Hugs Pen-Pin - I hoped that you might feel better once the day had arrived. You are so positive despite all your problems so hopefully this will get you through. Best wishes for you and yours. We'll all be thinking of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Went to Harvester last night to celebrate the end of SATs - lovely
:T :T :T :T :T :T to my lovely 22yodd who left work early yesterday, got two buses home, killed two sp**ers in the kitchen, and then went all the way back for a dr's appt. When she got home she sent a text telling me I owe her big time as they were massive and she's not entirely unscared herself. I did tell her they were big but she had assumed I was exaggerating as usual
I have a bit of a dilemma - I'm on the comittee of the after school club which is losing money and in danger of closing. My friend and I want to give our girls osme independence before they go to secondary school, which for my dd will involve an hour's journey, so are goint to hand in notice for the girls. They will go to her house and neighbours either side will keep an eye on them (one of them is a policeowman) so we have no issues there. This will also save us about £20 a week but I feel guilty because I know how precarious the club is and that money will make a diference. On the other hand it will make more of a difference to me.
I'm in the middle of packing for a trip to canterbury - tent etc is loaded onto the bike - just need to sort some clothes out. Will be back on monday so behaveI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Morning everyone
cold and raining here this morning, i actually put the heating on last night as it got so cold:eek: i was already under a blanket and just couldn`t get warm at all. At least it will dry the washing that seems to be hanging everywhere now that the weathers changed.
When i got home yesterday one of the houndlets had been sick so that was lovely - in the worst place possible all down the stairs so that was a good couple of hours wasted, hope she`s better today as i do NOT want to be greeted by that again.
I remembered to get the dinner for tonight out of the freezer so we should be having beef stir fry and potato wedges YUM! looking forward to that and then i hope to be doing some ironing as its starting to pile up again when i promised myself i wouldn`t let it get this bad again, trouble is there are only so many hours in a day IYKWIM
Smoky - nice to see you posting, your boss sounds great!
Kathy - enjoy the wii, it sounds like good fun.
Beetheebee - hope your arms feel better and the pain goes away
Should be able to catch up later, best go and do some work now before the boss notices:D
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all,
((((((smokey, penpin, mrsmix, candygirl))))))) and all the others who need hugs. Good luck PenPin, will be thinking of you & you'll be back here before you know it. Smokey, it was good to read your post, you are doing briliantly & am glad your SIL appeared to help yesterday.
Good luck Janny with your tutorial day, I'm sure you'll get loads out of it.
No baby news from PippaD yet??
Martyn, glad to hear you still sounding very upbeat & that yesterday didn't bring you down too much. No bacon butty for you from Charlie'sMum then????
TNG :kisses3:
Tried to talk to DD's Thursday eve re no-one lifting a finger/attitude, but it disintegrated into a horrible row, with oldest essentially telling me what a terrible mother I am & how I don't support her / do anything for her (which I know is not the case) but still feel upset by it. So things a tad frosty here....
Not sure at the moment how I will progress from here, still giving it some thought. Just being very withdrawn.
Anyway, will pop back later. Have a good day all.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Mornin all
Am so excited as the garden transformation has started! I'm not entirely sure i know what they are doingbut i'm just gonna go with the flow. My brother arrived last night :A (plus his two kiddies as his wife is away on a girlie wknd) to help my dad, even OH helped :T OH is now speaking to me as he has been invited to a football match this afternoon (hospitality apparently) and wants authorized leave from landscaping later on  Am sure my dad will be chuffed with that! Brother will be back today to help so i will be responsible for childminding, bacon butties (Benthosboy will i make you one too seeing as no one else will?
) and plenty cups of tea.
All those years watching ground force and where's Alan Titchmarsh when you need him? Doing a daytime chat show thats where!!!! :rotfl:
stefejb Your daughter would be leaving the out of school club in the summer anyway would she not? I say if the time is right pull her out. You have been more supportive than most being on the committee as it is. Times are hard for eveyone, save the money you would have spent on the club and do something fun with it.
squiggly diddly hang in there with your DD's. It's not easy is it? I have same story with my DS in fact he told me yday to stop having a 'rampage' as he said he had forgotten to do some homework and i wasnt happy. A rampage? I didnt even raise my voice i just sighed and told him it wasnt acceptable at his age to 'forget' homework! If he thinks thats a rampage what the heck does he think when i am shouting and bawling??
Have a great day
