All a long time ago, I got over it and I've been quite happy using cheques but now I can't do that. I reckon ebay might lose a lot of customers doing this... not everyone can or wants to have paypal.

Obviously i don't know the full circumstances but your reasoning does rather show why ebay have decided to go paypal only. A seller who does not refund a buyer when an item fails to arrive is not what ebay want. Where paypal is involved at least paypal can usually force the issue and get the buyer their money back. If a buyer pays by cheque and the seller, for whatever reason, sends an item untracked and it fails to arrive then that buyer has no comeback.

The switch to offering paypal on all auctions hasn't actually affected many people at all as most people offered it. The main problem we have is on collected items where paypal is a disaster waiting to happen.

Well, they have lost me. I'm selling all my stuff and ending all my ebay. Hope others eventually do the same.
I wish someone like virgin would set up a rival site.

Please do not assume things. The buyer got his money back, all except £15 (which I had already spent) and I could not afford the other £15! The buyer, I believe was simply taking the !!!! and got a psp plus £150 back again. Not a bad deal for him then.

Mandles, that's what I thought too, it's all about the fact that they get more money by using paypal.

What good though is knowing where the cheque went..if we are talking about getting money back your sitaution shows why paypal is better. Buyer buys an item, it fails to arrive so paypal refund them unless seller can prove delivery.

With a cheque it gets messy as you need to go to law to get the banks to release info, you then have to chase the seller, track them to a confirmed home address, serve papers on them and hope they will pay up if asked to by the court.

What I meant is that it is simple to prove that you paid or to prove that someone didn't pay. But yes, with getting money back it's more of a problem.

Proving payment is immaterial especially as ebay no longer have any buyer protection unless paypal is used. All ebay protection disappeared about a year or so ago.

It seems to me that ebay always has protection for buyers but not sellers. I just think it's all a little mad since it's the sellers that are giving ebay the money to keep going!

I have bought and sold and always found that when buying I'm much more supported by ebay than when selling.

The seller could easily just keep both amounts then.
