I was in work today and telling a work mate how worried i was and scared and nervous for little miss divadee and she chuckled and said yep and you have it all to come and then some!! (her girls are 19 and 17)
I just felt odd and weird that i was so nervous and scared for DD. but now i know im normal-ish, and will have plenty more to worry about, if she turns out like me when i was 16 i will have a bloody lot to worry about!! lol
any other hints and tips?0 -
No hints and tips from me, I'm watching this thread and taking in all the info, as my dd is the same age.
Now where can I borrow a bucket of sand from?:o0 -
Hi,
I don't have any kids yet (yet!) but I thought I'd share my experiences.
I started puberty very early and was fully developed by seven. I was way ahead of my peers in both developmental terms and height - I was 5' 7'' when I started secondary school. My Mum gave me a book to read when I was about 8, I think it was called something like "Have you started yet?" - I've just looked on Play and it's still out! It's by Ruth Thompson and is excellent. It tells you what and why without going into the whole sex issue - I managed to hand on till formal science lesson to find out about the next bit at 11!
I started my periods in the summer between primary and secondary school (11), which was quite lucky. I did have a BIG accident though when I started my new school, the nurse was great though, they see these things a lot. They also dished out hot water bottles and a comfy bed if the pains were too bad!
I was the first of my friends but when I got to secondary there were a few more people who had started.
Anyway I don't know if that's any help, I certainly think it was harder for Dad (especially when I came home with my first bra from Tammy Girl!)One day I will be out of my student debt, one day... :beer:0 -
my dd is 8 and a very slender build but she already has breast buds and sometimes complains of a little discomfort.
i wont need to have the big period chat with her cos im a woman and she already knows all about it. she knows about mums blood and how it sometimes gives me tummy ache and makes me moody and they ve all had a good laugh when i have a major flood all over my clothes. including my two older boys.
i have brought them all up to know about periods as i want the boys to be understanding when they have a girlfriend in the future and about what they may be suffering.
they have all seen packets of pads/tampons in the bathroom and there is very little mystery in this house.
ive also explained to her that having the blood is what allows ladies to have babies so when she is older i can elaborate on that. i certainly think she is too young for the birds and the bees just yet.0 -

Yes it did considering she has been with her husband for 9 years and she is 25, I would conclude that it worked really well. Gold star to me.0 -
I am not a mum as i am too young for now, i am 16 , nearly 17. Anyhow, by the sounds of it i am guessing your daughter is open with you (telling you about her mini). So i would as open with your daughter as possible. My mum was very open with me, but i did not like to talk about it and got embarressed.
I started my periods when i was 10. We start young these days. My cousin is about 9 and she has got breasts growing!.
Anyhow, best thing to do is be open as possible about it. When i first started i remember crying and telling my mum, she was proud in a way and said to me 'your a woman now' silly as it sounds. (Try to reassure her?) And expect the mood swings.
Good luck, be as open as possible etc.0 -
I don't have children but I thought I'd share my own experiences about periods at school.
I'm 18yo, and when I thought I'd started my periods at 10(year5), I panicked, I was in the school toilets and had basically a little tiny bit of spotting, but I thought I was dying, I went to my teacher and told her, she promptly marched over to this cabinet filled with glue pots and paint etc, and whipped out a massive Kotex pad, in front of my whole class. I was mortified, absolutely wanted the earth to swallow me up. All the boys were pointing and whispering and the girls where laughing at me and I ran out of school, all the way home(about 1.5miles away) crying.
When I did propperly start, I was 11,( which was before any of my friends, as I was an early developer, I had my first bra in yr 4, first pubic hair in yr4 but periods didn't start until yr6) and a lot more prepared metally, my mum, on the other hand, had only tampons in the house, and had to run to Londis and get some pads, she seemed to side with the school and buy Kotex, the huge night time pads that feel like a pillow between your legs.
But I don't know if schools are better now as this was 8years ago? We've got it all to come with my yr9 year old sister lol0 -
My 10 year old daughter has got breast buds and so has my 10month old granddaughter0

This is a really good thread, i have a 13 year old son so don't need to have that talk, although i will though..
If you don't like the following please don't be angry with me, i really don't know much about autistic children.
as for the mums with Autistic girls, I may be wrong but i think your gp maybe able to prescribe medications to stop/postpone periods..
I have a disabled cousin and because she cannot do anything physical for herself, they gave her medication until she was a little older.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0
