Thanks Aussie. We currently live a stone's throw from Queen Vic market which is a Melbourne institution - about 1000 stalls on a Saturday. We get our fruit, veg and meat from there, so that does help with costs. The butcher we use at the market is fab but there are lots of tempting things there... maybe it doesn't save us as much as we thought! I'd be happy to be largely veggie but OH, whilst not a traditional meat and 2 veg guy, does enjoy his meat.

We cook from scratch and I do bake, but only treats, not bread. We grow herbs, strawberries and tomatoes on the balcony, as well as limes, lemons and oranges (none of the citrus is mature enough to have given us fruit yet) so we do try, but don't have room for much more. That'll change when we move into the house :j

That's a long winded way of saying your budget gives me quite a lot to go on, as there are enough similarities to make me feel guilty :o

Oh, and the house is in a suburb called Sunshine! In Melbourne's inner (just about) west. It's an old working class suburb; the old Sunshine Harvester company employed the majority of the locals. It was formerly called Brimbank Junction, but the residents voted to change it as they were so grateful to the company. Isn't that sweet? I know of Ringwood - it's east of the city and too far out for us to have much to do with it as we don't have a car.

Fi27 thanks for the well wishes! I'm glad someone can empathise with how excited we are! I feel a bit silly at work as everyone is pretty experienced in buying and selling, so they look a bit bemused when I start rabbiting on :rotfl:

    Morning :hello:

((((smokybabe)))) I liked what Chrisca said.
Hugs too to all the ill people! There certainly does seem to be something going round the Daily Thread... don't come near me, any of you!

Am slightly in the doghouse at work... I forgot to set my alarm before I went to bed last night, so I overslept and was over an HOUR late :o:o:o Still, at least the air conditioning is fixed :T - my boss has a little temperature gauge thingy on his desk clock and it's now showing 23 degrees. A couple of days ago it was 29

Had a lovely time last night at my colleague's retirement party - was one of the last 2 to leave :o then got taken out for a Chinese by the other person who was still there. Got home a bit after midnight with some lovely photos on my phone. A few people were there who I haven't seen since they retired, all looking about ten years younger so retirement is obviously agreeing with them!

Today is my last day at work until 27th May :j :j :j :j :j :j and I'm really looking forward to my week off! I often take this week as holiday - the one leading into the May Bank Holiday weekend - so that it makes a 10 day break out of 5 days' leave.

Will be going for a swim this evening, then doing a batch of mushroom pasta for the freezer.

See you later, love Rzl xx

    Morning all,

Hugs and special thoughts to Smoky and family to-day

    Hugs Mrs Mix.

Still fine here, bit of cloud and wind, but pleasant enough. Really need to sort out some packing to-day...have been putting clothes to bring on spare bed and will soon have to do a leave it or bring it session...we are taking a small suitcase each and a flight bag as I am too lazy to drag big bags around.

Petrol and heating oil prices up here...cost me €810 for 1000 litres kerosene last week and petrol is somewhere around €1.30 litre so glad we now only have one little 1.2 car...would be walking otherwise! Have been trying to persuade OH that you keep the car windows closed and stay below 55mph and make no unnecessary journeys but I might as well be talking to the wall...he still drives two and a half miles for the paper first thing, even if we are going out an hour later!

Good luck to everyone with exams looming

    Have a good day

It looks as if it is going to pour with rain here.

Have just had some home made bread with sliced ham and a mug of coffe as an early lunch and have put a sandwich loaf in the BM to see how that turns out.

Marinated chicken is in the fridge ready to cook tonight with Jersey potatoes, peas and leeks.

Trying to decide if I want to have a look in York this afternoon as the weather is so dull.

    Martyn

It is great to hear you so cheerful.

    Hester

I have an awful vision of Katy at the airport surrounded by a dozen suitcases and being told how much excess baggage she has to pay!!!!

It would be funny except I am sure that she will expect you to either pay it for her or to take suitcases home!

I am also sure that no many times you try to explain to her she will be sure that she knows best!

Hugs to anyone that could do with one and see you later.

    hi

slow and gentle start to my last proper day of freedom. Started by taking DH picture for something to do with his work - very amusing!!! I've been flicking through my efforts just now - I think he's very good looking  Then off i went for my reflexology appointment - I feel like I'm floating on air now :D

Treated myself to a new magazine - called Let's Knit. Mioliere doesn't know what she's done to me. I absolutely love my newly acquired hobby and can't thank her enough for her encouragement:kisses:

So for dinner i'm trying to make some moroccan stylee stew-type-thing with couscous then having the girlies round for book club - meant to be at another friends house this month, but she has got the decorator and joiner in and the place is a mess by all accounts!

right - off to empty WM and clean those bathrooms (I hate that job)

    Hi again

Well found the energy to get dressed and started tidying up a little, the conservatory is under control now, though the ironing + board is still in there but that can wait a bit. Started on the bedroom, but got called to help DH lift the fence panels out of the posts so he can spray them as we got one of those thingys yesterday, got the last 5 years paint - we'll see. Daren't go and see my Dad while like this, the home do not need this I am sure.

Trying to decide what to do with the Pork Steak I have out, that is quick easy and uncomplicated, grilling it maybe! Boring I know.

Chalky - glad you left the sunshine over there. We go on the 28th, we have a bit to do before then! Looking forward to it though, we haven't timed it right as we will need to come back before the end of July to tax the car and the insurance runs out while we are out there, so need to fix that shortly me thinks.

(((Smoky))) special hugs for today. Pen-Pen how are you today? Pen-Pen enjoy your piggy day - Aussie you can't resist can you! Jayward heard anything from the union yet? Catowen well done on the win, did you see the tractor photos I took for you? Pam - look after yourself, don't charge around too much, you did all you could while you could. Annies, Anniebl and everyone else I have forgotten (((((Hugs)))) Martin don't say I have to hide where I will be going in Yorkshire soon else I will too be beseiged for Bacon Butties (which we don't do!) Rzl - Please give my regards to Nelski I haven't seen her on here for ages.

    Enjoy Friday - DG

I've been thinking similar things about Katy, Elona. Hester, your best bet is to drop her off at the airport, help her get her luggage onto a trolley and get away from there as quick as you can :D

Feeling a little bit better now so will pop down to the post office in a mo, got a parcel and a recorded delivery letter to post. It's next door to Morrions so will pop in there too and see if they have any bargains worth having.
