It's worth taking a proper one because you can camp in a secure area, and usually take your car right up to it as well! You do have to work a nightshift, so ideal is a blackout tent.

They're definitely still recruiting now - they usually run out of vacancies once tickets sell out, but this year is a bit of an exception... as long as you can clear your deposit cheque sharpish, you should be fine  Of course, you do get paid for this job as well (as opposed to Oxfam, Workers Beer etc).

I think the only reason they don't get swamped each year is that they do run a very military operation - there's lots of shouting, patronising and general talking down from the management which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth - however, if you can stand up for yourself and do a good job, you will get respected for it. And while you're off duty (which is the majority of the time) it's party party baby!

Back on topic (sort of!), how was everyone's weekend? Did you all have this glorious hot sunshine?? Brilliant!

I was scrubbing on the patio this morning when one of the chickens hopped up, flopped herself down sideways, legs akimbo, wing outstretched and head resting on the step with her eyes closed. I thought it was funny, then got worried because she wasn't moving and poked her.

Well, she was most upset by that "why are you poking me when I'm enjoying a good sunbathe?" so she huffed her way over to the fence and did the same thing there! Tufty-puss was most intrigued, approached and sniffed at her, looking at me to say, "Mummy, is it dead? Can I eat it now?", when the chicken suddenly moved and terrified poor Tufty into next-door's garden .

Well, NiceSoFarLodger and I have had a very quiet weekend of tidying and organising... and AngelLodger got home about an hour ago, signalled by a cry of "put the kettle on!" down the stairs  I've got to say, Badger House has never been so harmonious...

  • Ahh Badger Lady, it sounds lovely!!!

Can you wave your magic wand over my humble abode when you get a chance??!
  • Gotta to say found this thread this afternoon and read all 49 pages and has kept me entertained its like a soap opera has really come out into reality. How is Tufty doing you haven't had him kidnapped recently?
  • No, Tufty hasn't been kidnapped... though I fear he may be losing the plot! This evening, the chickens were outside scratching for worms as usual, and the cat started joining in. I don't know what was going through his fuzzy little head - he was pawing away at one bit of earth, then turning around and pawing at another bit, then looking up at me to ask if he was doing it right :rotfl:

Then this evening, he went out for his abolutions... he asked to come back in so I opened the door and he started coming in as normal - then he paused, darted straight back out and about 5 feet up the holly tree before he fell back down again!

Crikey....as the wife of another Mon-Fri angel type lodger I'd be a little annoyed if I thought his landlady was eyeing him up.

Hi Badger-Lady...there's a lot happened since I last read this thread! :)

Don't worry Lostinrates, there's nothing in it  I've already resigned myself (happily) to eternal singledom!

Our cat Rosie is on the brink of insanity at the moment. She's behaving madly - meowing excessively even for her and acting oddly. It's cos the birds are so active I think - she's bought a sparrow in yesterday so I've fixed another bell to her collar to see if that'll give them more warning.
Spring is in the air. It makes animals strange.
