people refuse to pay because they say they dont drink milk/use teabags/steal butter etc

Ha tell them you are sick of playing hide the butter/milk/teabags and that as of now the rent will be raise by X and they can use as much of the agreed staples as they like.
An alternative idea is to take temporary people instead. This works especially well if you know anyone that works for a university who could put up posters for you. Temporary people often have their board paid by their employer so you can demand top money as the alternative would be a hotel, it's not their home and they are away working they are often more conservative and considerate and they don't bring the kitchen sink and 45 pairs of shoes with them and think it's reasonable to leave it all cluttering your hallway.
If you get good enough money you can afford to not try too hard to find people all the time and have a well deserved rest from sharing too.
Just out of interest do you have to hide toilet paper and dishwasher tablets too to ram home the point that it might be their turn to buy themOh and use the phone for outgoing calls to australia while simultaneously assuring you that they never use the phone as agreed

Ha ha, noone here with antipodean relatives, so phonebills ok! But yes, I now have my own stash of toilet roll. I can only presume/hope that they are doing the same, as there's not been any on the holder for a while, and we aint got no bidet!
Thanks for the tip - there's a few uni's round here, so will look into that idea
Badger Lady - any news on the Alpha Lodger?
And is your toilet being left flushed and fresh yet?0 -
Well I've just been downstairs having a cuppa and natter with him and a different mate I know well, and we've now split off to our separate bedrooms. The guys are playing music and laughing at the moment - will just have to play it by ear if it goes on...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0
