^ Ah, well I have to be fair - he hasn't used up his 1 month notice yet! That ends 10th July

All he's used up is his rent and deposit, so I'm relying on him to pay for everything between now and moving day

    Hi,
What a great thread, small piece of advice he now owes you so he has the upperhand. I would suggest you charge him weekly in advance that will keep him focused, you can always refund him any part overpaid. After many years of experience it has the feeling that he is setting you up be careful.
    Hope all goes smooth.

Thanks Marty - that's sound advice. When he gets in, I'll ask him for a date and bill him for the rent up to and including that date.

Surely he's in a rush to get to his penthouse!?!? I would be :rotfl:

Its such a shame that people are so squirmy (my own word feel free to use) as said in earlier part of thread its best not to become to pally with tenants or lodgers because 9 times out of 10 it ends with them owing you money ha ha ha ha ha.

    It gets worse and worse!

Well, £50 never arrived under the door, and I'm on holiday for a week from tomorrow. I had a very vivid dream where I literally had to chase Lodger1 down and mug him...

... so this morning I woke up early, put on my dressing room and hid behind my open bedroom door (which is by the front door to the house) and waited. As soon as he came sneaking down the stairs, I pounced with, "Good morning! How are you doing? Any chance of some rent?".

He started sifting through his wallet, saying, "I'll have to stay until the weekend if that's OK." Then, "Oh look, Badger, I haven't got any cash on me - are you around later?"
"No - no, I'm off on holiday today."
    "How long for?"
    "A week, until Monday."
"Oh! Um - well, I could go to the cashpoint, but I've got to catch a train shortly."
"Yes please, sorry to be a pain but, you know..."
"Er, sure, where's the nearest cashpoint?"
"You know the one at the bottom of the road you always use when you've got no cash?"
"OK - well I'm just going to pull up outside, OK?"
"Yep." [waits in front garden wearing dressing gown until he reappears]
"I've managed to get £70 there, is that enough?"
"Well, that'll see you through 'till Friday."
    "Great - bye!" [runs away]

I haven't seen Lodger2 this week - I hope he's going to be around so he can be my spy (and collect the keys!!!).

  • Good on you for standing your ground. I would tell him any extra days are £30 a night to pursuede him to move more quickly.

    Can't fault him for trying.

Is his furniture still there as well?

Have a good holiday Badger - going anywhere nice?

Must be - he slept here last night so I'm guessing he's still got a bed at least!

I just love this thread and I'll be sorry in some ways when it's all over. It never ceases to amaze me at how tricky people can be when it comes to paying their own way in life.

Have a good time at Glasto Badger, my son is going and he hasn't even got a tent yet!
