Never ever ever ever got to pontins southport 5.gif
It was foul we got there at 5.30pm yesterday and walked into our appartment that wouldnt have looked out of place in a detention camp. It was filthy so I thought ok will give it a bit of a clean, wiped the tables, kitchen, bathroom down etc and thought would clean the bathroom floor of what I thought was a dark grey lino..so gets down with cleath and wipes one bit to find that no actually it is supposed to be light grey
Then G and I looked at the cesspit..I mean bed we were supposed to be sleeping in and it was horrendous we couldnt even sit on it so we decided we would each share with one child and we had the travel cot for dd2.
The whole place stunk but thought well its only a base we will go and have a look around.
We went over to the main centre and it was about 7.30pm by this time so we got dinner which was really nice. Then went to watch the bluecoats which to be fair the kids loved then took them back to appartment by about 9.45pm and put them all to bed. G and I went not long after but the bed was disgusting it felt damp and horrible and the bedroom stunk.
When we woke up this morning we noticed there were tons of stains all on the sheets and bedcovers that hadnt come from us 5.gifdd1s chest was really wheezy which think was the damp so we told A we would be coming home and would get them a trampoline instead. A was devestated as of course kids dont see the dirt. However took them over to what looked like a lovely play park only to be greated by 2 used condoms !!!!!!!!! puts them by a kids play area never mind just on the floor....
Anyways that was enought for me but thought I had lost my purse so we had to turn the beds over and am just glad we didnt do that before we went to sleep last night otherwise I would have just been awake...lol they were soooo foul I cant even describe...worst bit is as I handed in the key told girl I would be complaining and how foul the site was etc and she just nodded her head and said yes we know please complain 5.gif5.gif9.gif

Am just soooo glad it was a freebie so instead have spent the afternoon using our spending money on a trampoline and putting it together for the kids!!

HA HA!!! had a good old laugh over this, what were you expecting a four star hotel lol Its a children's entertainment holiday camp. We were there this weekend, yes our rooms were minging but it was free and the kids absolutely loved it!

I would never do that to my kids! taking them home early that is wicked!

Granted it was filthy, minging, dirty, boggin but we all had a fantastic time, its what you make it!

Oh and our sheets were white than white (they must have used Daz on them lol). If yours were dirty why didnt you take them back? We go to Pontins a good few times a year, and if something is wrong I go to reception to tell them and by the time I get back to the room it is always sorted!

You should have read the reviews before you went, someone would have really appreciated that break!

Totally agree! I always take an old pair of socks that we put on over our normal ones each time we go in, cos otherwise they get filthy. I always wipe over the sink tables etc, and once we took the mattress off the bed and put it straight on the floor as it was so saggy.

But we always think a break is what you make it. We play crazy golf, cricket, footie, walk on beach, feed ducks. (There is a swan family on the pond opposite and an adorable baby cygnet!) We didn't spend any money on site as took all our own food and drink, and our kids loved it! We'd have stayed for a week.

PS Meant to add re prestatyn, there is a historical marble church in North wales. Must get the name of it. My parents went last week and said it was really interesting

  • i was at southport at the weekend and my chalet was clean  the bedsheets were whiter than white, the kitchen and bathroom were gleaming and the carpet had been vacuumed although it looked grubby. the chalet wasn't fantastic - the door didn't fit the frame properly so it would be cold in winter, and the windows could do with replacing but nothing was actually dirty. i didn't clean the floors, and just wiped the kitchen surfaces with the anti-bac wipes i'd bought. they didn't need it, they looked spotless but you never know. the sofa bed wasn't very comfortable but we managed.

i am going to complain about one thing - the writing on the bedroom walls. i don't like that kind of graffiti around my children - swear words, sex talk and phone numbers etc.

i would go back there. i'm trying to talk my husband round, but he thought it was grotty, run down and full of scummy people. my little one didn't pick up on the foul language though, and i think you get that sort of person in most holiday camps anyway, certainly in prestatyn.

yes i would have stayed for a week but my husband had to work on the tuesday and my kids were back at school for wednesday.

The crazy golf is free. on one of the evenings my little one stayed awake to watch the captain croc show at 8pm. he was entranced, especially when captain croc touched his hand. captain croc was at reception for hugs and photos on the day we left which i thought was a lovely touch. the arcade was pretty rubbish and everything was broken. the booklet of leaflets you get in your welcome pack has a voucher for a free game of air hockey - you take the voucher to the change desk and they give you a token. there's also a voucher to upgrade a coffee to a large, but in the pub they do bogof instead :D

the swimming pool has a few little slides which my 2 year old found very exciting. it opens at 9am too, which is good on a rainy morning, and nice and quiet because everyone else is hungover ;)

the park was nice and we didn't see any condoms or litter.

my eldest had his birthday so he did a PGL activity with 3 of his friends, they all loved it and a fiver isn't a bad price. you'd pay that for a bounce on the trampoline at butlins. he booked more PGL activities because he enjoyed it so much.

although we took stuff with us the onsite shop was okay and not overpriced.

the beach (ainsdale) is lovely, with sand dunes and you can see the sea unlike the actual southport beach. ainsdale beach is across the road from pontins. the pub across the road does a sunday roast for £3.99 i think, and knickerbocker glories for £2.50. they sell swan food (grain) at 50p for a large bag. there's a fluffy cygnet which is adorable. it's a nature reserve and you can walk along a wooded path around the lake, about a 15 minute walk. some of us wandered into a toad reserve somehow, but we got to the beach eventually :D

No didnt expect four star at all I expected something I could use as a base to be able to cook in and sleep in but both of those were impossible.

Fair play to anyone who is happy to sleep in sheets with what looks like dried on sperm...:T Not for me and most certainly not something I would put my kids through!!!
I did clean the apartment, I went prepared with bleach and clothes and the like but it would have taken me the whole time we were there!!
Also agree some of the other people staying there were choice, DH had to tell some little darling to stop throwing stones at my 1 and 2 yr olds!!
My 4yr old also developed fantastic language skills I think the phrase a rather lovely young chap taught him was' I am going to F&&&&&& butt you in a minute'
So well done you for staying there and enjoying your trip..we will most definetly never be going near the hell hole again.
HUGE THANKS TO MAXIMOUSE THE HAMSTER ANGEL..GOOD KARMA IS COMING TO YOU!

Carmina, talking about language, we were in the showers in the pool one day and this girl about 12 came in and said "You f***ing di**head" "to another girl.

I said, "Excuse me, my children are in here, and I don't want them hearing that"
The look she gave me!! My kids are 13 and 9 and she was likely younger than my eldest but I do NOT want them hearing language like that.
People who swear usually have a limited vocabulary

Nemo, you could have asked them to move you to another chalet

let me tell you, I have OCD to do with germs etc, and although I am able to go away (Its more inmy own home) I do notice dirt etc. The only thing I can say was really dirty was the floor and thats why we take old socks.
For me it is actually a chance to get away from my illness and the kids can come and go without worrying as much about tkaing their shoes off immediately and washing their hands immediately they get in. But I wouldn't have stayed in dirty sheets or beds. I'd have asked to be moved.
Just a thought, but do you remove your shoes and wash yur hands each time you go in your house?
if not your home is FULL of germs. Your kids at school will touch millions of germs and if they then touch your door handle, couch etc those germs will rest there. if you dont take your shoes off, you are bringing in remnants of dog poo, wee, human wee, vomit, spit, car fumes (highly dangerous) etc etc and carpets harbour these things terribly!

Just a thought. Sometimes the worst germs are the ones we can't see, but even tho I have OCD I have done my A level biol and I know that actually our immune sytems are 99.9% of the time fully capable of handling these germs, and the immune system is strengthened for it!

I thought you said that as you were leaving?

if you'd complained first night you could haveasked for clean sheets/ new chalet
I've had 3 free hols at pontins and each time the sheets have been fine, even if the beds looked like two ton tessie had been sleeping it them! LOL
(Send em all out swimming etc! lmao)
