also shouldn't this be in discussions rather than here

This will also be happening in B&Q in the very near future. They will have a bag recycling 'thing' behind the checkouts where you can get some used bags for free, or pay 5p for new ones. (and all profits are put into their 'One Planet' charity)0

Good point about the self-service checkouts. Since they have a little electronic fit if you don't put something in the bag. Interesting one.
To be honest, this is probably the start of all the big 4 doing this. At our local Morrisons they have already taken all the carrier bags off the packing area and you have to ask the cashier for one. And she gives you one and tuts.
I just stare her out though!

Some shops give out bags for 1 or 2 small items. I always refuse as its a waste. They should ask if you want one as more people would think twice.0

I've just bought a very pretty shopping trolley on wheels, which easily goes in the car or enables me to carry heavy things when I walk from the shops. You can get beautiful, chic ones these days (not the tartan old-lady ones). Did this having come back from Spain and seeing that everyone uses them and that the supermarkets there have an area where you can lock up your trolley, do your shopping (lovely clean plastic baskets on wheels which you can drag round with you too). Bought mine at the local (small town) market but you can also get lovely ones on the web (or large one from M&S for £7.50 online, plus Quidco).
I think it's the way forward and am thrilled with mine.
Regards
Jen

I work in Asda and I dont believe it is a money making exercise, but a reply to the budget with the legislation warning. The amount of bags people use is ridiculous. In France you dont get bags but take your own. Everyone will get used to it really quickly when it is in place. I agree its not going to save the planet but every little helps.

These bags are really good they open out and clip on the side of the trolley, you just load ur shopping in and then straight in the boot they hold about 30kg in weight,my sister got me one similar to this from germany she said they use em a lot over there so i have got a pink one and i have got one of these from m&s as a large trolley holds 2.They fold down in a case and are then a bit bigger than an umbrella.http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B000UWYA0E/sr=1-1/qid=1210854630/ref=sr_1_1/203-5396956-4957541?ie=UTF8&node=42966030&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=boot%20organiser&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=&page=0

I've been stocking up on reusable bags for a while now and we always take them with us when we go shopping to Asda. I've also started using the reusable ones at the self service checkouts, all you have to do is press skip bagging and after a while the assistant just has to click a button on her monitor and hey presto! The only trouble I am going to find is that I use the bags as bin liners..lol. Oh well back to swing bin liners or something..Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️
