yes we should take our own bags: but the idea of them donating the extra profit to a green charity is brilliant - let them put their money where their mouth is.

In Tesco, you rarely get credited with the green points for using your own bags, I find. And they cant always be forgetting - it must be policy if you don't ask.
I work in Tesco's and yes we do sometimes forget to give points to customers who are reusing their own bags. But you can always have them added at the customer service desks.

dont forget it is on top of the admin charge for those not paying by direct debit. when you think those people are most likely to be the most poor in society then it is a disgrace also. well the people who cant get bank accounts to pay by dd are most likely to be the poor.

In fairness (not that there is much!) its not really making money as saving money. It does cost them a heck of a lot for paper statements. OK net result is the same but if you look Virgin Media aren't actually making any significant profits which are not ploughed back into the networks.

I have banked online for the last 10 years or so. Being honest, I don't think I have ever printed a statement. And I certainly don't print statements for utilities, etc.

a penny saved is a penny earned. companies have always had the cost of printing and sending out bills. it is just in recent years they have started to eye it as a way of saving or rather earning more cash, however you want to look at it.
anyway cost isnt the reason they say they are doing it. they say it is for environmental reasons.

Asda will start charging for carrier bags from 1st June. Woman on the till told me today.
They'll claim it's 'to save the planet' but really it's so they make more money.

Philatio's MSE Tip - Go to Tesco instead ;)

That will be them off my shopping trips then

    A message for the supermarkets

I BUY LESS WHEN I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BAGS!!!!!!!!!

just come from our asda and all the plastic bags are still on display and free.
which is good because i refuse to pay for a bag which advertises the shop and increases the shops profit,

maybe a nice jack daniels one or a budweiser one would change my mind,

if in future they refuse to give me a free one my shopping will remain there until a staff member helps me carry it to my car
    .
    Well said!!!:T

at my local asda i was asked if i had brought my own bag today. we had no prior warning and no signs are up suggesting they have changed the policy yet. if i hadn't read it on this forum, i would have never known it was even being thought about.

the cashier did reluctantly give me a bag (just for today) though.

also, if virgin are going to charge £1 for a bill, can i charge them for the constant barrage of flyers i get from them?

i might write an invoice up later...
    Perhaps not.

But perhaps, just like paper billing, they will charge you a pound every time they give you a paper flyer!

...and if you've not agreed to paperless billing that pound invoice will create its own invoice for another pound.

Perhaps you should just send them all your money now - they obviously are not going to be happy until they get it

asda told me this was the last week that the free plastic bags will be use, only the bag for life or cotton bags on sale, so bought the green plastic reuseable bags 5p each, which are quite strong and better than the ones they are using at moment , also the bag will be replace free if it splits or handle breaks, it also says on the bag.

I work in Asda and I dont believe it is a money making exercise, but a reply to the budget with the legislation warning. The amount of bags people use is ridiculous. In France you dont get bags but take your own. Everyone will get used to it really quickly when it is in place. I agree its not going to save the planet but every little helps.

Isnt that Tesco's line? LOL :rotfl:
