OH stopped into Asda after work tonight to get a few bits and the lady on the counter said sorry he could not have a carrier bag he would have to pay 70p each for a 'reusable' green plastic bag. There was no offer of 5p for a bag or a decent cotton one. There was no warning it was just brought in today - 70p per bag!!!!!!!!!

The government really take the biscuit they don't recycle hardly any of our waste in our area because the council won't give our local recycling area permision to expand because it would 'destroy an unused field'!!!!!! But they will quite happily rip up a forest to build a housing estate that now causes floods and damages our enviroment more.

just come from our asda and all the plastic bags are still on display and free.
which is good because i refuse to pay for a bag which advertises the shop and increases the shops profit,

maybe a nice jack daniels one or a budweiser one would change my mind,

if in future they refuse to give me a free one my shopping will remain there until a staff member helps me carry it to my car.

Was in my local Asda this morning. They have removed the free carrier bags from display on all the manned tills and replaced them with stronger bags for life (for which there is a one off charge)

However, the free carrier bags were still available ("under the counter") on request - and many customers requiring carrier bags appeared to be requesting them!

Free carrier bags were still freely available at the self serve tills.

Neither. It means your life for the bag.

Woolworths in Hemel said they no longer give our carriers and I had to pay for one! If you know they dont give bags thats ok, but I never knew about Woolies and I had to pay

from what i can gather, woolworths are giving any money made from selling carrier bags to local charities (thats what it says in our local one anyway)

thats nice but the whole point is to do with recycling, not raising money for charity. the answer is to give money back when people hand them back for recycling. just like they used to do with soft drink bottles. i am sure that would solve any issues and everyone would be happy.
