ASDA Carrier Bags - No more freebies

If you want to move to China you wouldn't be able to access MSE as their Internet is heavily regulated. A couple of other downsides - you'd be on a very small wage (if you had a job) with no luxuries, they have an extremely repressive government with no protests accepted and you would have to undergo compulsory military service. But on the counterside, the way they are pumping out filth and pollutants into the atmosphere to catch up with the more industrialised West, I don't think you can call them environmentally friendly...0

thats not much compensation if you end up with a 4 pint bottle of milk split open all over the pavement or your 6 pack bottles of beer smashed on the pavement.0 -
remember about 15 years ago you had to pay for carrier bags, then supermarkets started giving them away to attract customers, so they are to blame.
reduce reuse recycle. everyones got used to looking after them selves, me me me, take take take, its free get it, just for the sake of having it.do you need a whole cupboard full of plastic bags?
yes but also remember that back then they were alot stronger and you could confidentally put something else in a bag with your four pinter of milk and not worry about the whole lot going staright through onto the pavement when you are half way home.0 -

Brown threatened to bring in a Parliamentary act if plastic bag use was not curtailed (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7270358.stm). To me, actively throwing them away seems supremely wasteful and more than a little selfish.
i have said this before, motivation to recycle is what is needed and not motivation to use less. have a hand back system were you get money back for every bag you hand in.0 -
dont you just feel better reusing a carrier bag? wether or not your going to save the world? just that little bit could be YOUR contribution. at least the supermarkets are making an effort to raise awarness.a couple of pence for a bag is no big deal if it makes you reuse it.some peoples attitudes are so wrong here.Tesco arent making money out of carrier bags by charging, they cost far more than a few pence to buy (i know).if no one buys them tesco wont need them....geddit? if you dont want them dont use them? take the boxes instead! or just unpack the trolley staight into the boot of your car.
whats the point of one poster saying they just throw them straight in the bin now supermarkets are on the bandwagon?why whats that proving?0 -

tesco do that with clubcard points! not direct money but helps.donnajunkie wrote: »i have said this before, motivation to recycle is what is needed and not motivation to use less. have a hand back system were you get money back for every bag you hand in.
i think they should have a levy on glass bottles to that you get a refund on when you take back...like you used too.0 -

i work at asda and i dont think they will make much money if you remember to bring your own bags it wont cost you anything and buyin a bag that cost you 5p that asda replace if you get a hole in for the rest of your life is a small price to pay. so stop moaning and get used to it.0

Paper bags have a large "carbon footprint", so they're worse in that sense. Also, the whole idea is a shift in attitudes towards reusing bags and bringing your own, which giving out paper bags wouldn't help withWhy can't they use paper bags like loads of US supermarkets do? Biodegradable, easily recyclable...Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
