Tesco wrong prices thread part 5 - please post your finds here

Options
This is a continuation of the Tesco Wrong Prices part 4 thread here as once again it was getting rather long.

This thread is for only posting incorrect prices that you spot in Tesco's supermarkets. Any discussions on the policy should be put in the Discussion Time thread that you will find here. Thanks :)

For new readers:

the Tesco policy as written on their website is :-

if things don't add up

In the unlikely event that we overcharge you we will give you your money back and you can keep the product.

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged, if not you are entitled to a refund at the Customer Services desk.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Tonight have got 2 Organic Brie lower shelf edge price to kg price on the cheese
  • OK . . after reading all these posts on tescos wrong prices I'm gearing up for my first visit tomorrow. I live in quite a rural area and my one and only tesco is 17 miles away but i'm hoping it will be worth it.

    Just a couple of things:
When I'm buying mispriced items, should I also buy a few regular items just to make it look convincing?

Could anyone give me a quick summary of the best items to look for. I'm usually an Asda girl and i've never shopped in tesco before, so am unfamiliar with their products. I'm sure it would be much easier if I could print out a list of what to look for (to cunningly hide behind my shopping list!)

Many thanks in advance and I'll let you know how i fare :)

Simply compare pack price per kilo etc with shelf edge label where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged if not you are entitled to refund and replace, read the previous threads carefully all the information you need is there.
    HTH

Beware as sometimes the lower price is charged!

Would it be possible for the mods to add all the misprices as they are posted in the orginal post at the top so we can see them all in one place and again once they have ended or Tesco's know about them then delete them as they were getting lost on the last thread?

    Thanks
    Darren

Right guys here is one for you guys who know a bit about consumer law and Mr T's pricing policy. Here is some items checked tonight although I have noticed loads over the past 2 weeks.

    Item Store 1 Store 2
    Organic Brie 9.56kg (shelf price 9.65kg) 10.20kg
Sirloin Steak 10.93kg (picked one up at 10.98kg O/C) 10.98kg
    Organic Cheese 6.45kg (re-labelled) 6.79kg
    Finest Cheese Berries 9.45kg (re-labelled) 9.99kg

Same products roughly 1 hour apart.

In fact, store 2 had 2 steak packs at £10.93, and 1 at 10.98 with shelf label at 10.98.

So its luck of the draw for the average punter what he gets charged.

To me it seems that store 2 just stick the highest price on the shelf labels even though they suspect it to be incorrect.

What do you guys think trading standards would make of this total shambles, or Mr T HQ ???

it's a nice idea, Dalkirst, but unfortunately the Board Guides wouldn't really have the time to keep it up to date. Grabbit is a very busy board, with a lot of posts/threads per day, which takes a fair bit of time to look after and also we aren't able to read every post due to time constraints. We're just volunteers fitting this in around our normal jobs and lives so the time to do that isn't always available :)

Back to the misprices - the 6 medium free range eggs were still wrongly priced at my local Tescos today. 84p on the shelf, 88p through the till.

Its different stock that causes this.

The two reasons for the mis-price are:

1, new stock comes in at at a higheer price and they forget to change the lable

2, new stock comes in at a lower price, they change the shelf label too early while old high price stock is on the shelf.

In fact no. 2 is the most common as I ofter see stock on the shelf with two prices at the same time.

But the actual pack price of the Store 1 cheese with berries is 9.99 and they have manually re-labelled to 9.95. while store 2 is probably correct at 9.99 on shelf and 9.99 on the pack.

Also the organic cheese is both 6.79, yet store 1 has them re-labelled to 6.45 kg.

The steak is a old vs new stock issue.

The Brie, well that anyone's guess pack price totally different in the 2 stores 9.56kg in store 1 versuses 10.20kg in store 2. I don't think this is old vs new stock either seems to be that one of the labels is just plain wrong. Wonder what the web-site price is ?

Just checked web-site which says 9.65kg which is same as label in store 1 but not the same as the pack price in store 1.

    Sirloin 10.93kg
    organic cheese 6.79kg
Cheese with berries 9.95kg (so was wrong in the assumption that store 2 was right on that one)

It's a total shambles, that's all one can say !!

Beware as sometimes the lower price is charged!

I received a letter yesterday, signed by Terry Leahy, Tesco Chief Exec. It was a pretty standard letter but one para was particularly interesting:
Finally, overcharging is defined as charging the customer more than is indicated on the shelf edge label (SEL), point of sale (POS) or on the product itself. It does not include minor errors of size description on the SEL or POS, i.e. where the price indicated is actually the price charged but a mistake has been made in the weight or measure indication.

He obviously thinks it's not a misprice as long as one of the prices are right.... Unless you know different:rolleyes:
Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.
