Here's to a future where noone makes any mistakes or is never ill.Iamthesmartestmanalive wrote: »Tbh if you cant be responsible enough to know when your MOT etc is due then are you really responsible enough to own a motor vehicle which is capable of so much damage
Its not exactly hard to either remember it or set up some sort of reminder on a pc, diary, phone etc etc or even just check regularly
If they cant be bothered checking an MOT certificate regularly you have to wonder if they check brakes, oil etc etc
And just because the car passed is irrelevent, it could have equally had a potentially fatal fault
I bet a £60 fine will stop you forgetting againHappy chappy0 -

If you go on the motorway, it's an almost certainty that you will pass an ANPR camera which alerts some control centre that you don't have insurance. Obviously whether they send anyone after you can depend on if they have someone available.0 -
Thanks to everyone responding to this.
Firstly, I am fully insured and have been since 29th March - renewal with the same company. The insurance company have to send the insurance information directly to the MID (Motor Insurance Database) where it is uploaded and is accessible by the DVLA and Police. My insurance company have not done that, and I am now therefore in battle with them as to why they did not do this. Normally 48 hours after renewal, but now some 6 weeks!!!!
When I invited the Police to inspect my Certificate of Insurance, they did so and called the insurance company to confirm it was valid. I offered to dig out the MOT for them, but they said they had to go now and that I was to produce it within the next 7 days, etc.
I couldn't find the Cert so called Renault who informed me it had run out on 21st April. I had expected a reminder, but technically they are not obliged to do that.
I had the MOT done the same afternoon, which passed and then went to the Police Station to present it.
I WAS CAUTIONED!!! Talk about overkill, the Police had already put me in the back of their car and left my sleeping baby in mine when they pulled me!!!!
So that's exactly what happened. I think that is probably the end of it. There may well be a fine, but I had invited the Police to stay whilst I dug it out, but they didn't, so as Quentin said, they may well just leave it??
Kind regards

I believe that once the car is insured, you can drive to a pre-booked MOT appointment without MOT or Tax.0

That's what happens to people who break the law. You get cautioned because what you say may be used in evidence against you if it goes to court.0 -

As you have been cautioned then that's it. A police caution is just a formal warning about your future conduct. Its used instead of a prosecution, It should have been explained to you You should also have agreed to the caution
Put it down to experience and I suggest you add your MOT date to your diary so you don't forget again"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

About 8 years ago I too forgot to get my car MOT'd and I didn't notice until I went to look for it to get my car tax (some six months later) that I had not had it done. Luckily I wasn't stopped by the Police in the intervening period, if I had I would have been in the same position as the OP.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
So, if I insure my car then get in it a few days later and drive passed some ANPR equipped cop car I can expect to be pulled over?
Depending upon how quickly your insurance company update the MID database, then yes....you may well be pulled over.
That's exactly what happened to my dad, when stopped by the police, that was the reason they gave for stopping him.
But, you can check if your vehicle is showing as insured by using the www.askmid.com site and if there is a delay, then possibly carry your cover note with you.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

It's not exactly formal warning...
Will a simple caution go on my criminal record?
A simple caution is not a criminal conviction, but it will be recorded on the police database. It may be used in court as evidence of bad character, or as part of an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) application.
