URGENT HELP - Stopped with No Insurance or MOT??
Comments
-
I had a nasty accident once and was told I had to produce my documents, even though it was not my fault.
Anyhow, all above board, had everything needed and went to the Police station, I gave them my insurance covernote and it was an old one, they asked me to fax an up to date one through to them.
I didn't, must have forgotten, was pretty bashed up after my accident and had more important things to worry about.. never heard from them again.
So, you could always take your new one down and plead ignorance and say 'ooops, i brought the new one instead of the old one, sorry'.. they may never contact you again.
Or you could be upfront..
Or you could hope they don't notice..
Good Luck x

You hopefully now have a MOT, and have been given 7 days to present it.
There should be no problem unless you confess!
dont you think the clearly printed date on the new MOT may give the game away. i would have thought as the op has a producer then the dates will be checked. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Of course they'll be checked.
They check to see they are valid.
The op has already had the police round and she couldn't produce a valid document for them. They gave her the producer, not a ticket (which they could have done).
Remember it was the police computer that wrongly said she had no insurance.
There is no "game" to give away, and equally, no reason for a confession.0 -

The insurance database is responsibility of insurers to add cars to. The MOT database cannot be wrong, unless there are still some MOT stations not on the new system, so I am surprised the police left it at that.0 -
I think they hoped they had a no insurance case - which probably is a target they have to reach (for prosecution) - as well as the much lesser no mot. When they found out the insurance was in place they didn't have the incentive to pursue the mot (which would have been a fpn, £60 to pay) - or, as you say, they could have done when at the defendant's house.0

Or maybe 2 genuine police officers detected a potential offence and wanted to deal with it?0 -
If it fails and you want to stay legal, then don't drive it home. You are only legally allowed to drive it from the MOT station to the garage which will do the remedial work.
You are allowed to drive it home, park it off road and then drive it to a prebooked repair or retest.
As for no MOT making insurance invalid, I just went to Tesco Insurance, and read their T&C, oh lookYou must take all reasonable steps to safeguard Your Car from loss or damage and must maintain it in an efficient and roadworthy condition and allow Us free access to examine Your Car at any reasonable time.
You must keep Your Car in an efficient and roadworthy condition, and take all reasonable measures to avoid loss or damage, e.g. when leaving it unattended the ignition key must be removed and the Car locked.
Strangely the entire T&Cs do not mention MOT or Ministry of Transport...
Ever impounded a car insured by Tesco?0 -
dont worry about it, get the mot done then produce but explain it had just elapsed, the clerk will have to report it but then after a few days im sure you will get a 'letter of no further action'
if the cps see you as an easy score they may want to take you to court but the courts wont be bothered so you'll be out with costs (£35) and a £20 fine or maybe a little more, nothing to sweat over in the slightest
i doubt it'll go further than a letter of NFA0 -
I tried to post this earlier and it lost all the text???
My car passed the MOT without any work needed. It's an O4...
I took the Certificate to the Police Station and presented the slip of paper handed to me by the Police this morning. I was cautioned, which really shocked me, and said nothing when asked if I had anything to say.
I was advised that I may receive a £30-£60 fine, but due to the fact that I had the MOT done immediately that this may be waived. I will hear in 8 weeks.
I would like to thank everyone for their help and support as it's been such a stressful day.
I'm now having a glass of wine and trying to calm myself after today's events.
All the best to everyone that replied and gave invaluable advice.
Many thanks and kind regards
Anne x0
