You should get a copy of the spectacle precription as the sight test has been completed.Just ask for it if they have forgotton.
If you are talking about your contact lens prescription, you won't get it until the fitting process is completed to the optometrists satisfaction, which may not be until you've taken some lenses home and returned for a checkup a couple of weeks later, or even after a longer period if you are a new wearer.0 -
Thanks for the replies. It's just the normal prescription for glasses after a sight test that I want. I'm thinking about buying some glasses online. Does anybody have any experience with PD measurement? Is it something that will have changed since my last eye test (a few years ago)?
I have all my contact lens checks arranged was just wondering if they would only give my glasses prescription after those checks.0 -
I was handed mine straight after the test.0

you are entitled to a copy of your glasses prescription at the end of your test. your PD measurment is the responsability of the people dispencing your glasses and specsavers are there for not required to give you that piece of information.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I have been told by Specsavers today that I will have to pay £20 for my contact lens prescription.
I argued that I must have a right to the information under Data Protection Legislation.
They said that I do have that right but, like doctors and medical notes, they have the right to charge my for the information.
Does anyone know the law relating to this? I haven't paid the £20 and really don't feel I should have to.0 -
I suggest you contact the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS), who should be able to help. You can contact them on 0844 8005071 or postbox@opticalcomplaints.co.uk0

I believe that they are allowed to charge for a repeat copy, but not the inital copy. Were you issued with a specification when fitting was completed? If you were but have lost it, you need to pay. If you were never issued with one, they can't charge.0 -

This is a new prescription as my sight has worsened. Certainly I haven't had any prescription this time. Interesting point though and I will mention it to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service0 -
It appears I am stuck with the £20 fee! I have received a response as follows:
"... you should understand that there is a difference between a sight test prescription and a contact lens specification. The optometrist does not have to produce and hand over the contact lens specification to you until such time as he or she is happy that your lenses have been dispensed and fitted satisfactorily. Your sight prescription on the other hand, you are entitled to immediately upon completion of your sight test. There invariably is a charge levied for a contact lens test/specification which is distinct from a sight test."0
