Never even knew you could get them tbh.

I would honestly say you would be better off persevering and learning to put them in yourself.

It has only been a couple of weeks, it does take time.

When i wore contacts I found that putting it on slowly helped. So when it starts to touch your eye just give it a little pressure and let it suck itself onto your eye. I found if I tried to press it onto my eye the lense would turn inside out and stick to my finger.

    thanks skippycat

I just managed to get them in now!! but it takes me bloomin ages...still I wont give up cos the benefits of seeing without glasses are worth it

ps...making sure the lense isn't inside out is not easy either! I know there is meant to be a 'lip' showing when its the wrong way but I can't see it! :D

Hold the lens on your finger tip up to the light, it sould be bowl shaped, if mine is inside out it has a striegt down sort of shape with no
arch. I can also tell if - the lens is in and not settling down. I have to take it out and try again.

re putting the lens in - for the right eye I put the lens on the right index finger and use the left hand to open top and bottom lid and same in revirse for the left. To get them out I pinch right across the eye and they come out first go every time.
Patience and time, you will find your own way.

OK..i have been a myopic git for something like 34 years and i have progressed from glasses, through to RGP lenses and maybe 5 years back i switched to daily disposables so i am a man of some experience in the optical department!

First thing is,you made the right move. Daily disposables or similar are the perfect soltution. Crystal clear, razor sharp vision as you will have already witnessed. Great isnt it?

As an aside,i use daysoft dailies www.daysoft.co.uk They are very cheap and IMHO as good as J & J accuvue.

Now down to the tricky bit, getting them in. First thing you mustnt do is get overly frustrated and the second is,dont quit. Itll click with you one day, just like riding a bike.

The major blocker for most peeps the the business of putting your finger in your eye. It isnt an issue for me and its something you need to get used to. I can get both my lenses in in probably less than a minute.

I'm guessing your on minus prescriptions? Its important becuase positive care harder to get in. Which brand?

Accuvue have lettering etched on them to tell you if they are the right way round. forget it,you need to observe the curve and know when they are not inside out!

    So then,,

Unpeel the foil from your lens packaging

Put them on a shelf or table where you can comfortably work from

Wash your eyes thoroughly to clean any bits off them and the eyelashes

    wash your hands thoroughly

Do not dry your hands with a towel or paper towel as you will pick up bits of lint which will contaminate the lens !

Let your hands dry naturally for maybe half a minute

decide which index finger your going to pick up the lens with

Rub the tip of that finger on the back of your other wrist once or twice to clear excess moisture
pick up the lens and position it on the index finger and observe the curve to ensure its right way up/not inside out

nowwith the index finger of your other hand, hold open the upper eylid and as the lens approaches your eye,use the finger next to the one on which the lens is sat,to hold down the lower eyelid.

focus on the approaching lens, keep looking at it,do not look away,do not blink and gently place it on the eye with minimal pressure.

With practice you will sense the surface moisture of th eye attracting the lens to it.

    Pause for a little while,

gently lift the finger away and blink slowly to centre the lens

If it falls out,re-wet the lens using the fluid left in the container or,as you are a newbie, get a bottle of saline from boots so that you can rinse and re-wet fallen out lenses.

Once your an expert you will get them in 99% of the time first time

Its no big issue for me,its dead easy and it will be so for you too. Just practice.

and the lense just sticks to my finger...
If you’re having a problem like Jem describes, here are my tips. Water is sticky stuff. If your finger is wetter than your eye, the lens will prefer clinging to your finger. If you take the lens out of the solution and it makes your finger too wet, you can put the lens on a finger of the other hand and dry the finger you’re going to use a little before putting it back. Be careful, though. If you make it too dry, the lens will then fall off before you reach your eye.

The biggest discovery for me was not putting the lens on the pad of my finger. I put it on the side. It’s more curvy there, so the lens is less likely to stick. It also makes your finger appear slightly smaller. This can help with the feeling you get when you first start using contacts that you’re about to poke yourself in the eye.

  • I have just started wearing contact lenses and my friend told me to try and put it to the side of your pupil and then close your eye and move your eye side to side. The lens will then go onto the pupil and hey presto it's on. I found this alot easier to do.

Also to find out if it is going in the correct way put the lens on the edge of your palm where the first crease runs - adjacent to your fingers and then just very slightly go to close your palm. The lens should then just fold and if it does this easily you know that the lens is the right way.

Good luck - I am still struggling, but unlike you I still don't think they have my prescription right (have been back twice) and I do not get clarity, still a bit blurred - so think I need to go back a third time:mad:

I've got to have a dry finger (oooh err) and I put a drop of solution into the lens and then I find it squooshes onto my eye no problem. If my finger is too wet then the lens just slides about and it's a nightmare.

I couldn't use that device though - ewwwwwww.

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
  • I started wearing contact lenses about 2 years ago and whilst I struggled to start with I was determined not to go back (I was 30).

I use the middle finger of my right hand (I am right handed) whilst holding the eye open (top and bottom) with my left hand. I find that using my middle finger means I can steady my hand (and therefore have a better aim) with my index finger.

When taking my lenses out I could not get the hang of how I was shown at the opticians so I use a sideways pincer type movement with the pads of my index and middle fingers...it works for me :D

I daren't even look at the device to help you with putting them in - the thought of what it might be makes me feel queasy :rotfl:

my problem is getting them in!...the lens always sticks to my finger!

It does get easier with practice. If you wait, with the lens on your finger tip for a few seconds it dries a bit, gets a little less floppy and is easier to insert as it holds its shape better and is not so likely to spread out across the finger.
